Psychedelic Frogfish
(Histiophryne psychedelica)
HABITAT? In the waters around Indonesia
DID YOU KNOW?
– The fish was discovered by scuba diver instructors in 2009.
– It is named for the swirling patterns of its beige and peach stripes.
– Like other frogfish, its fins have evolved to function almost like legs.
– With its off-centred tail and habit of pushing off when its fins hit the seabed, it appears to bounce around as it moves.
– Its body is covered in folds to protect it from the edges of coral reefs.
