It’s hard to believe that it’s been 15 years since HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE came out, but it’s true!
To celebrate the debut of J.K. Rowling’s unforgettable series of a boy wizard, the book has been graced with brand new cover art by Kazu Kibuishi featuring Harry and Hagrid’s first trip to Diagon Alley. If you’re like us and think an original shouldn’t be messed with, you’ll be happy to know that Kibuishi was thinking the same thing!
An author as well a illustrator herself, Kibuishi saying that at first she was reluctant to take on the assignment. However, she eventually agreed saying, “When illustrating the covers, I tried to think of classic perennial paperback editions of famous novels and how those illustrations tend to feel. In a way, the project became a tribute to both Harry Potter and the literary classics.” The rest of the series will also feature a new cover with a crucial scene from the novel.
