10. Cody Simpson
The “iYiYi” Aussie built on the momentum of last year’s EP by releasing another one this September, which had us humming along to his addictively fun tunes.

9. Taylor Swift
2011 didn’t bring new music from Taylor, which is why she ranked low on this list, but that doesn’t mean the country darling wasn’t busy. Major kudos for throwing a benefit concert for tornado victims in the U.S. and traveling the globe on her first worldwide tour.

8. Katy Perry
One hit wonder? Guess not. Katy showed she’s got staying power, earning 4 Grammy nominations this year and becoming the first female artist ever to have five #1 singles from one album.

7. Greyson Chance
This young singer definitely made his mark on 2011, releasing his debut album in August, touring with fellow popster Cody Simpson and appearing in the season premiere of RAISING HOPE.

6. Hedley
Always a fan favourite, this Canadian band continues to rock, proving on collaborations like “Invincible” that they can mix it up with the best of them.

5. Beyoncé
Though her fourth studio album didn’t do so well on the charts, this musical powerhouse still had a lot to celebrate, especially with the announcement that she and Jay-Z are expecting their first baby!

4. Selena Gomez
Does Selena ever sleep? This was another giant year for the multi-talented star, who not only released an album, but also wrapped the final season of her show, and co-hosted and performed at the MuchMusic Video Awards.

3. Rihanna
Her ‘Loud’ album carried the singer through 2011, infecting the airwaves with hit single after hit single. With more new music on the way and a role in 2012’s BATTLESHIP movie, Rihanna remains a force to be reckoned with.

2. Justin Bieber
While his personal life took centre stage when he and Selena confirmed they were dating in March, Justin’s career kept on skyrocketing. NEVER SAY NEVER was a massive hit and he was even ranked number 2 on Forbes’ influential list of Best-Paid Celebrities under 30.

1. Lady Gaga
Where else does an artist belong when she has released one of the most anticipated albums of this year and continues to influence others just by appearing in public?
