Tyler Medeiros isn’t an overnight sensation, but lately his stardom has taken a blast. As the cousin of both Danny Fernandes and Shawn Desman, he has the home-grown talent literally in his blood.

It’s just been announced that Medeiros has been signed under Flo Rida’s record label, International Music Group (IMG) and will be performing alongside Flo and Pitbull at the Canadian stops on their upcoming tour!

The Mag got the chance to speak with Tyler about the tour, his upcoming album, performing his own stunts and more….

So how excited are you now to be a part of Flo Rida’s record label?
Very excited because I grew up listening to his music and watching his videos, and now, to be a part of that, is something I could never have dreamed of.

And you’re working with RyanDan as well on a new album, how is that coming along so far?
It’s great because Ryan and Dan are like my big brothers. When I work with them, they’re like family—we joke around in the studio, but we still make sure we get our work done.

How involved are you in the process—do you write the songs as well?
There are a lot of people who write the songs. I work with a lot of people throughout the process, but I like to have my input even if it’s just 1% of it, so I know that it’s me. Whatever I do, it has to show “me”.

So how do you show “you”? What do you uniquely put into your songs and your dance sets?
With dancing, I like to do a lot of flips. I like to flip a lot. I never did gymnastics or any of that stuff, so I self-taught myself to front- and back-flip…the first time I ever did a back-flip was actually at a park on bleachers. I was about three levels high and I did a back-flip off of that.

Have you ever injured yourself?
No, I’ve never broken a bone in my life, never ended up in the hospital…nothing.

Cool! So how long have you been dancing for?
I’ve been dancing since I was ten.

And you mentioned joking around with Ryan and Dan—have you ever brought up their past involvement in b4-4?
All the time, all the time. I bug them about it all the time.

Do they joke back?
Oh, they’re really bad; they’re such jokers. They’ll tell you that they’ve just seen a lion outside and they work together as a team, so we believe them! I don’t even know what it is, but they have this quality…they could say that they just went to Narnia and we’d still believe them. That’s how good they sell it! So it’s really hard to know when they’re lying and when they’re telling you the truth. It must be a twin thing.

So you said they’re like a family, but you actually have family in this business like Danny Fernandes and Shawn Desman. How have they been mentoring you?
Danny’s more of a mentor for me only because he was signed with CP Records, and then so was I. So we were alongside each other and he helped me a lot with my music, my performing, my presence—everything.

And you’ve already done a song with both of them, so are there any future collaborations like that in the works?
Not right now, but we do want to get Danny on another one.

What about with anyone else, any new names that are coming in? With Flo, maybe?
There is one with Flo, and actually maybe a couple with Flo. It’s just we’re not in the studio working on it right now, so we don’t know 100%. We’re not in the recording stage.

Your fan base is also growing like wildfire. Do you have any stories of crazy fans yet?
Not so much “crazy fan” stories but crazy things that they’ll do for me. Girls that hop on buses and trains… I haven’t had planes yet—not that I know of—but they’ll hop on trains and buses to come see me perform in cities and stuff like that. To know that they’re that dedicated that they’ll spend money on a ticket and a ticket for the show…it really touches my heart that I reach out to people like that.

And you’re going to be touring soon, with Pitbull and Flo Rida and stopping in Canada for a little while. Are you working with them on performances now or anything?
No, I work by myself…I’m going to be coming in during Flo’s set and I’ve been in rehearsal every day for four hours… we have a lot crazy stuff coming; a lot of flips and unique things, because we want to take it to a different level, so we’ve got to step our game up cause now we’re in the big leagues.

Are you planning lots of aerodynamics, with wires and stuff like that?
No, I try to stay away from wires cause I want to do all of my stunts. If I can do a flip then I’m gonna do the flip, you know? I don’t want wires making me do flips.

If the opportunity ever came for you to be a stuntman, like in a film—would you want to jump on that?
To be a stuntman in a film, no. If I was in a film and I had stunts to do, then yes. I would do my own stunts.

What about the album, do you have a name for it yet?
We had a name for it in the beginning but we’re going to switch it because we were supposed to drop on my birthday, but we weren’t feeling 100% with it. We thought we could do better, so we put it on hold and now we’re still in the studio recording and making songs.

Is there an estimated release date?
No. Just as soon as possible.

Do you have a single that’s coming out soon?
I have a single coming out called “I Got It Bad”. It’s either going to be that one that’s going to be released called “QTees”, which is a song for my fans because I call them cuties…it was really easy to work on that song because I had such great inspirations to work on that song.

Thank you, Tyler! For more info on his upcoming tour dates, check out his website here.
