British pop singer Cher Lloyd has returned to the musical world with a smashing new single. “I Wish” premiered on August 31 and features well-known hip-hop artist T.I. It is the first song off the highly anticipated sequel to her debut album, ‘Sticks + Stones,’ and is due out later this year.
The two artists teamed up to create a catchy tune infused with a reflective message on body image, which is accentuated by the song’s lyrical, rather than action-based, video release.
Unlike most contemporary music videos, this one is all about the words and the meaning behind them: Lloyd clearly wants her listeners to know exactly what she’s saying! Lines like, “I wish I woke up with a butt and a rack, cause if I want you I gotta have that,” take a stab at modern society’s ridiculous standards for women and their appearances. She later emphasizes the importance of going against the grain and wearing or doing what you feel comfortable with – “I don’t own any five inch heels, just got my Nikes on.”
“I Wish” boasts a refreshing “You go, girl” attitude and is undoubtedly a glimpse of exciting things to come from this young artist.
Lloyd begins her first U.S. headlining tour September 6 and will also be performing in Montreal on September 11 and in Toronto on September 13.
