Beyonce’s haunting rendition of the American national anthem at Obama’s second inauguration on Monday was by far the most talked about moment. Unfortunately, while the talk was all nonstop praise at first, it soon turned into bewilderment when it was revealed that Beyonce lip-synched the entire song!
Apparently, lip-synching at the inauguration is not uncommon. Last year, classical cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, synched his performance to a recording because playing live would mean risking broken strings thanks to the cold weather.
It appears that all inauguration performers prerecord their songs in case the weather makes it impossible to successfully sing live. Beyonce decided at the last minute — for whatever reason — to use the prerecorded version, but her spokesperson has not confirmed nor denied this.
Do you think it’s a big deal if Beyonce lip-synched? Why or why not?
