Ed Sheeran’s got a busy year ahead of him! He’ll be opening for Taylor Swift on her upcoming Red Tour this spring, and also plans to write and record songs for his next record while on the road.
Ed told Billboard that he has “around 26 songs for the next record,” and says it will probably come out in February of next year. He says to expect this record to have a more mature sound, as songs on his first record ‘+’ were written when he was 17-18 years old (he’s 21 now). He feels that the record will be more developed, as his writing and performing styles have evolved over the past few months.
Ed has worked together with Taylor in the studio for some songs, one of which is on Taylor’s newest album ‘Red,’ and others that have not been released. Ed says he admires Taylor’s work ethics and “that she writes her hits herself and she’s probably the only woman in her position in the industry who writes 100 percent of her hits.” Ed has also written songs for One Direction, including “Little Things.”
The Red Tour will be Ed’s first time playing big stadium shows. He says he doesn’t know what to expect but hopes that it will go well. With that attitude, it will go well!
The tour starts on March 13 in Omaha, Nebraska, and will make Canadian stops in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver in June.
