Fresh off the release of her sophomore album, ‘Timebomb,’ Canadian singer Alyssa Reid sat down to discuss music, touring and more.

What can fans expect from your new album?

Reid describes the record as carrying a stronger urban edge than her debut. The first album was a learning curve, a time when she discovered the craft of songwriting and collaborated with remarkable artists. The new release feels intimate and personal, introducing fresh sounds that expand her musical range.

You recorded your new album in Los Angeles, Miami and Toronto. What was that like?

Reid recalls that the experience was exciting and creatively energizing. She spent a lot of time in a Toronto studio, but a steady routine in the same room can dampen ideas. Getting away to warmer places offered new inspiration, with Los Angeles providing a particularly vibrant spark.

What are some of your favourite hangouts in Toronto when you’re not working?

Reid mentions a Mexican restaurant called Playa Cabana, joking that she could eat there every day if given the chance.

What was the inspiration behind your video for ‘Satisfaction Guaranteed’?

Reid says the concept began as a dream she had—a vision of a playful restaurant with a quirky twist. She shared the idea with the director, who then expanded it into a fully realized treatment.

Your debut single ‘Alone Again’ is still a fan favourite. What was it like getting so much attention for that track?

Reid remembers feeling overwhelmed by the early success. She had gone from working a part time job to traveling across the country, then Europe, and finally touring with big acts. The rapid ascent served as a crash course in how the music industry operates and what it takes to succeed, and she remains grateful that the song opened doors and taught her valuable lessons early on.

You’ve encountered your fair share of dedicated fans. Do you have any crazy fan stories?

Reid recalls a German fan who sent a letter saying he would leave his girlfriend and travel to Canada to be with her. In handling such moments, the label steps in for security if there is a real concern; otherwise she simply does not respond to avoid escalating the situation.

You’re about to go on tour with Hedley. What are you most looking forward to?

Reid has met Jacob from Hedley a few times and they even collaborated on a song called ‘True Colours.’ She found him to be incredibly talented and friendly, and she looks forward to sharing the stage with him and a great band.

Do you have any pre-performance rituals before you go on stage?

She admits to drinking tea before stepping out to chase away the nerves and warm her body. The ritual helps her settle in before the first note, and once the show begins, it becomes a party on stage. Nervous energy is something she embraces because it reminds her to deliver her best for every fan in attendance.

If you could work with anyone in the world in the future, who would it be and why?

Reid would love to collaborate with Drake. She admires his flow and believes a joint track could blend well with her own sound.

You got your start on YTV’s THE NEXT STAR and YouTube. What advice would you give to a young musician looking to launch their career in a similar way?

She urges aspiring artists to put themselves out there, share videos with friends, and ask for help spreading the word. Persistence can put a project in front of the right person if it finds its audience.

Thank you, Alyssa!
