Fans of the Canadian singing competition YTV’s THE NEXT STAR will surely know that Sunday night was the season five finale. We were lucky enough to see the show live at Canada’s Wonderland and had a blast! Before the show, we caught up with Nate Hall – a new face on the music scene. He performed with this season’s winner, Brooklyn, for her final solo performance. Here’s what the charming performer had to say:
What inspired you to become a musician?
About five years ago, I went to a concert and I was immediately obsessed. The next day, I went and started learning the guitar. I was probably around 14 years old then.
Have you had any formal training?
Yeah, I do vocal lessons and dance stuff now, but for awhile I was just self-taught.
Do you find it more nerve-wracking to perform in front of a large crowd for a show or a small crowd for an audition?
I like big crowds! I do not like small crowds – they scare me way more!
If it were up to you, what kind of performer would you want your fans to see you as?
I just want to be fun and interact with the crowd. I want fans to enjoy themselves, so that’s what I’m going to aim for tonight.
How did you end up performing here at THE NEXT STAR?
Well, I actually did a song with last year’s winner for their first song called “Paper Heart”, so I kind of heard about it that way. Also, my manager produced a song for one of the contestants.
What are you most excited about for tonight’s show?
I’m excited for Cher Lloyd, definitely! I’m excited to see the top six – they’re incredible and I can’t wait to see them perform. And Neverest, too! They’ll all be great, I can’t wait!
So what’s next for you?
We’re actually in the studio working on producing new songs, so I’ll have an EP out soon and I just had a single come out this summer.
Thanks, Nate! Be sure to keep an eye out for his upcoming EP, out this fall!
