What is it about The Muppets that make them so universally beloved? Homer Simpson once described them as “not quite a mop, not quite a puppet” which makes no sense and so much sense all at the same time. Lets be serious, they’re the only performers on the planet who could sing a song where the only words are “Mahna Mahna” and not make painfully annoying. (Take notes, Smurfs. Your “La la la la’s” will never measure up).
As of tomorrow, the Muppets will continue to do what they do best: pair up with popular musicians to make them sound as quirky and as weird as the Muppets are. THE GREEN ALBUM is a compilation of classic Muppets hits performed by current hit artists like The Fray, Hayley Williams of Paramore, Andrew Bird, My Morning Jacket, and… most important… OK GO.
Why is OK GO so important? Because it means they’ll be doing another one of their amazingly entertaining music videos to their rendition of the Muppets Theme Song. Of course, Kermit and the gang will be making an appearance in the video as well. If you’ve never seen an OK GO video, Youtube it now. If you have, then you understand what we’re talking about.
However, the album release seems miniscule compared to the hype around the upcoming Muppet film, in theaters November 23rd… the parody teaser trailers are nothing short of brilliant. In the meantime, let Weezer and Hayley Williams’ rendition of “Rainbow Connection” on THE GREEN ALBUM take you back to a simpler time… – 5/5
