Hilary Weaver says, ‘Tell The Next Girl’
Toronto’s Hilary Weaver is an 18-year-old rising pop star, who just recently released her first 6-song EP, ‘Tell The Next Girl’. However, even before her EP was released, one of her songs from the EP, ‘Put Your Hands Up’ was featured on DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION.
Hilary is not only a great songwriter but she is also a great performer. Her relatable songs tell stories about the ups-and-downs of love, staying strong and being true to yourself.
THE MAGAZINE had the fabulous opportunity to meet and interview Hilary Weaver. We chatted about her music, her inspirations, princess parties and much more.
What was it like writing your first song and recording it for your first EP?
I first started off by going into a studio and I had never even written a song before. For the first song, I had a really distinct message that I really wanted to portray but I didn’t know what words I wanted to use. Then, all of a sudden, it was kind of a magical thing when one line came to me in my head and that was ‘Tell The Next Girl’. So, it was kind of just meant to be that way. It was a great experience.
What’s your favourite song off your new album and why?
That’s hard, because I like different songs for different reasons. However, I would probably have to say ‘Tell The Next Girl’. It was the first song I ever wrote and it has a deep meaning to it especially for me but it also can relate to other girls and hard relationships that they are going through.
You’ve won many awards, but one of your most notable is winning Best Female Vocal at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards for “We’re Smokin’ Hot”. What does winning that award mean to you?
It means the world to me. Going [to LA] and actually winning an award was just unbelievable. I got up at the podium and I had no idea what to say. I was so shocked. It was absolutely amazing.
You have a part-time job at My Perfect Princess Parties as a singing princess. How long have you been doing this and what is it like?
I’ve been doing it for 2 years. It’s so much fun to get dressed up as someone that you’re not. Little girls are absolutely amazed with the Hannah Montana parties. It’s a really special and fun experience.
Who were and are your musical inspirations?
Ever since I was young, my number one musical inspiration was Celine Dion. I also like Michael Bublé. Also, Miley Cyrus is an inspiration for my part-time princess party job character. She’s a huge inspiration. She is so young and she has been so successful so why would you not be inspired by her.
What’s your favourite song on your iPod right now?
I hate picking one song. However, I have to say “Fifteen” by Taylor Swift.
How can people buy your music? Where can it be purchased?
You can buy it at maplemusic.com or they can also just follow the links on hilaryweaver.com. Also, a free download of the song ‘Tell The Next Girl’ is available at: http://www.hilaryweaver.com/music.php.
What’s next for you?
I am just starting on my next album and promoting the EP right now. Also, I just signed on to a new project with a producer in India. One of my songs is going to be featured on a CD for Haiti. It’s called ‘Haiti – We Are There for You’.
Thank you Hilary!
