Thursday, August 16 was a great day for the Brats, Giants, Hoot Owls, Mayniacs, Karminites, Jepseners, and members of Team B.o.B and the “TWFanmily.” Their idols took the stage at Toronto’s Molson Canadian Amphitheatre to perform all their hit songs in a massive concert that lasted two days! The action started at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and ended 12:30 a.m. on Friday!
It was all part of this year’s annual KiSS 92.5 Wham Bam concert, which included Cher Lloyd, The Ready Set, Owl City, Conor Maynard, B.o.B, Karmin, Carly Rae Jepsen and The Wanted!
Each artist had their chance to shine and the crowd loved every bit of the show, including a short set from KiSS 92.5’s DJ Clymaxxx.
THE MAGAZINE caught up with The Ready Set and Conor Maynard to talk about their projects and guilty pleasure tunes.
The Ready Set
Why The Ready Set? What inspired your stage name?
I wanted to have a band name, so that whenever we played shows it didn’t come off as a one guy pop set-up. I wanted to have a full band experience to it. In the studio, it’s me. When we tour, it’s a full thing.
What is your guilty pleasure music of choice?
Taylor Swift.
What’s next for you?
We have a tour coming up in the fall with Boys Like Girls and The All-American Rejects and then an album coming out. The new single, “Give Me Your Hand”, is out now.
Conor Maynard
‘Contrast’ is a great album. Do you have a favourite song you like to perform off it?
I think my favourite to perform is the track featuring Ne-Yo, “Turn Around.” I think it’s made for a stadium performance. It’s a very big song that gets everyone going. “Animal” is another one that I like to perform. I wrote it myself with The Invisible Men.
You have a great group of fans, the Mayniacs. What has been your most memorable fan encounter?
I was in Dublin, Ireland. I had to get a plane back to London and I had to get a police escort through the airport because fans tried to kill me. (Laughs) They were trying to get pictures and it got a bit scary!
What is your guilty pleasure music of choice?
That song from High School Musical. “Soaring, flying.” That’s a great song. It’s really cheesy.
Thank you The Ready Set and Conor!
