Last week’s exciting episode of THE NEXT STAR: SUPERGROUP revealed that Electric Aveand Rebel Coast were the two groups moving on to the finals! THE MAG sat down with Kyle, Angelo, Curtis, Amer and Ryan of Rebel Coast to find out their initials reactions when their group was announced and how life at the SG house is treating them.

What were your reactions when your group was announced to go on to the final two?

Curtis: Super stoked!

Angelo: At first, when they called Electric Ave. we got really scared because we weren’t sure if they were going to pick two guy groups. So we huddled together because we didn’t know if we were going to go home or not but once they picked us it was such a relief and we were just really, really happy!

Amer and Ryan, you guys are alumni of this show, other than the group aspect, how is this experience different from your first?

Ryan: The rehearsals were really different because I can’t just focus on myself anymore I have to worry about all the people on stage with me.

Amer: Yea, it was different in that aspect but also you didn’t know what to expect, like how hard you have to work or what the competition will be like.

Curtis, Angelo and Kyle, do you guys feel less experienced? Have Amer and Ryan been showing you the ropes?

Curtis: I feel like at first I didn’t know what to expect from the competition but it was a good thing I had Ryan and Amer to kind of tell me things, which definitely helped. But I feel like what I expected of the competition wasn’t too far from what I had thought.

This question is for Kyle, you became really close with Shania, so what’s the hardest part of her no longer being in the house?

Kyle: It’s a bit quiet and I talk to her about as much as I talk to the guys here. So when she left it was just lonely.

Guys you seemed really into the spa day that the girls treated you to, what was your favourite part?

Ryan: Watching Curtis get his make-up done!

Kyle: Seeing Curtis get very shameful after kissing Zee.

Curtis: And then Zee kissed me! My favourite part was taking my make-up off afterwards. I mean they put make-up on us everyday but this was next level.

Angelo: That was a struggle. They placed it in my face not on; it was up my nose and everything. Disgusting!

What will you miss most when this show is over?

Ryan: Everyone from our group lives in Toronto except for Kyle so it will suck when he leaves. But if we win, we’re not going to miss him.

Kyle: I definitely think the hardest part will be leaving these guys because we’ve experienced so much as a band and also its at the point where we will be like “Oh, did you hear about this?!” Also with us being in a group, rather than all the stress being on one person we could balance each other out. We were always there to pick people up.

Amer: I’m going to mention the jam, because when you’re by yourself, you don’t have all the different music genres around you. When we jam its just really fun to get everyone together and sing songs because we all have different sounds.

Do you guys ever get into arguments? If so, what are they usually about? And how do you deal with them?

Curtis: Ryan and I go to school together so we’ve become really close. And over the summer we spent everyday together and slowly we just got on each other’s nerves and we had little breaking points where we’d argue about the silliest things. But we always forgave each other, they were mostly playful arguments.

Ryan: There was one major argument every week. We were like brothers.

How have the fans been treating you? Any crazy encounters?

Angelo: Twitter has been crazy, we were even trending. All my friends of school keep asking me “Are you famous now?!”

Kyle: I had to turn my phone off because it was becoming too much and when I woke up in the morning I had 86 Twitter notifications. People look up to us so it’s flattering but also overwhelming.

How did you guys feel when Cory came to you and asked you to think of a new name? Had you grown attached to Young Reckless?

Curtis: We weren’t really sure how our fans were going to react to it.

Kyle: We were pretty cool about changing the name, the part we were annoyed with was thinking of a new name.

Each of you one by one, what is the best piece of advice your coach has given you?

Kyle: One day we were all feeling pretty tired, and she said if you are going to be on stage everything has to be 10 times bigger.

Amer: She said, “Talent only gets you so far,” so we had to step up our work ethic.

Curtis: The most important thing that I will take from her is to separate the mind and body, if you think you can you will be able to achieve anything.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who wants to pursue a career in singing?

Kyle: It’s all about work ethic; if you want to do what you love you have to be ready to work.

Curtis: Just adding on to what Kyle said, I think a lot of people overestimate talent. People have said to me this business is 20% talent and the rest is effort. Even though there are a lot of talented people out there, it’s all about work ethic and motivation.

Angelo: You are going to have those days that are not going to be easy, performances aren’t going to go as planned, but you can’t let that get you down. Don’t let one performance ruin the rest of your life, so just work hard and you’ll get there.

Ryan: If you have all the potential it doesn’t mean you can just sit back, you have to make it happen!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Curtis: Selling out the ACC!

Kyle: Probably on the second album with these guys, touring.

Amer: Hopefully keeping in touch with these guys because they’re awesome and we’ve made such a strong bond.

Thank you so much Rebel Coast and good luck on THE NEXT STAR: SUPERGROUP!
