Rebel Coast Heads to the Finals on THE NEXT STAR: SUPERGROUP

In a recent episode of THE NEXT STAR: SUPERGROUP, Electric Ave and Rebel Coast were revealed as the two groups moving forward to the finals. The MAG sat down with Kyle, Angelo, Curtis, Amer and Ryan to capture their immediate reactions to the announcement and to hear what life in the SG house has been like for these five friends turned bandmates.

Curtis was visibly thrilled when the news dropped. Angelo admitted that a moment of fear hit first as they considered whether the show might crown two male groups, but relief followed quickly. When Rebel Coast heard their name called, the mood shifted to pure happiness and a strong sense of validation after all the hard work they had poured into the competition.

Amer and Ryan speak from a different place here. As alumni of the show, they describe rehearsals ticking up a notch this season. Ryan explains that the focus isn’t just on his own performance but on everyone on stage, making leadership and collaboration essential. Amer adds that the unknowns and the level of preparation required have grown, and that the whole experience feels more intense yet more rewarding this time around.

When asked whether they feel less experienced, the group notes that Amer and Ryan have indeed helped them navigate the early nerves. Curtis points out that the veterans’ guidance made a real difference, helping temper expectations while still keeping the excitement intact as the finals approach.

Kyle reflects on the personal side of the journey, noting that the house feels quieter now that mentor Shania is no longer there. He admits the loneliness of that absence but emphasizes the strength the team draws from one another. The group’s spa day memory turns into lighthearted humor, with Ryan joking about Curtis’s makeup moment and Kyle recalling Curtis’s playful reaction after Zee kissed him. Curtis laughs about the makeup being removed later, explaining that the routine is usually part of daily life, but the spa day felt like a fun, elevated version of it.

Angelo jokes about makeup being applied in unusual places, including near his nose, which adds to the humorous memories the group carries. When the conversation shifts to what they will miss most, they agree that the tight bond they have formed as a band is what they value most. The Toronto crew notes that being a group lets them balance stress and support one another through tough moments and celebrate the wins together.

Amer highlights the joy of jamming as a collective, explaining that their different musical backgrounds keep rehearsals exciting and give each song a unique flavor. The group also opens up about occasional disagreements. They describe them as brief, almost sibling-like moments that are resolved quickly with forgiveness, reinforcing their strong camaraderie.

Fan reactions have been electric. Twitter has seen plenty of activity and even a few trends, with friends curious about what fame might mean for this emerging group. Kyle admits he needed to switch his phone off for a while because the attention could become overwhelming, though the admiration is flattering and motivating rather than burdensome.

The team discusses the name change from Young Reckless to Rebel Coast, acknowledging the fans’ attachment to the old name while recognizing that the new name better reflects their evolving identity as a five-piece group. They agree that the change was the right call, even if the process of deciding it wasn’t easy.

One question keeps coming up in conversations with their coach: what is the best piece of advice they have received? Kyle recalls a moment when the coach urged them to bring stage presence to a level ten whenever they are on stage. Amer shares that talent can only take you so far, and a strong work ethic is essential. Curtis adds that it is important to separate mind and body so that belief and capability align to drive achievement.

When asked what advice they would give to someone pursuing a singing career, Kyle emphasizes the necessity of grit and consistent work. Curtis adds that talent is only part of the equation, and that sustained effort and motivation separate those who endure from those who fade. Angelo reminds them that failures happen and performances won’t always go as planned, but resilience and continued effort will carry them forward, while Ryan stresses the importance of turning potential into action and actively pursuing opportunities.

Looking ahead five years, Curtis envisions selling out a major venue like the ACC. Kyle predicts a second album and more touring, Amer hopes to stay connected with the friends he has made through this journey, and the rest share similar ambitions about growing as artists and as a tight-knit unit. The group closes by expressing gratitude to their supporters and looking forward to whatever the next chapter holds as THE NEXT STAR: SUPERGROUP continues to air on YTV on Tuesday evenings.
