Nintendo recently released DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS 3D for the Nintendo 3DS and THE MAGAZINE got a chance to try it out. Here’s what we thought.
DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS 3D is definitely a throwback to classic plat-formers. The story is that the mysterious TIKI TAK Tribe hypnotizes the other animals in jungle to steal Donkey Kong’s bananas. It is your job to play as both Donkey and Diddy to get those bananas back! To collect the bananas and stop all of the TIKI TAKS, you jump from platform to platform, throughout each world.
Like a lot classics, the game can get tricky and sometimes be frustrating. It takes a lot of practice and therefore you have to lose a lot in order to get the moves right, but it’s worth it in the end! It’s extremely rewarding to finish a level after having fallen off a platform cliff or bridge way too many times. Since it does take so much trial and error, you’re sure to get a lot of playtime out of the game.
The game is very similar to DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS for the Wii. It offers two modes: “Original Mode” with the exact same game as DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS for the Wii and “New Mode”, which has the same story, but a few extra features to help you out since the game is a little trickier on the smaller screen of the 3DS.
Everything in the game looks amazing. The art is really well done and makes you feel the vibe of the each level or world. From the tree vines in the jungle to the waves on the beach, it all looks incredibly realistic. The music is also fun and will certainly get stuck in your head!
DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS 3D is a good goofy game to keep around for when you need a laugh and something to do.
