Nintendo Names 2013 the “Year of Luigi”

Luigi fans will be delighted to hear that he will step out of his brother Mario’s shadow and make many appearances in games this year!

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for Nintendo 3DS will be released on March 24. Luigi is sent by a professor to explore haunted mansions and capture ghosts and collect treasure. The game also features new multiplayer modes, where up to four players can connect their systems wirelessly to escape the floor within a time limit in Rush Mode or search for hidden ghost dogs in Polterpup Mode.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, also for Nintendo 3DS, the game takes place in the mind of a sleeping Luigi, who believes he is a powerful and brave hero in his dreams. This game will be released in the summer.

Continuing with New Super Mario Bros. U for Wii U, Nintendo is releasing an alternate version of the game as New Super Luigi U. This game will be available as a single download in the Nintendo eShop. The game will feature more than 80 Luigi-focused stages, providing a whole new level of game play.

Lastly, Luigi and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom characters will be competing in Mario Golf: World Tour. This game will be released this summer on Nintendo 3DS, and will include courses that range from traditional to inspired by the Mushroom Kingdom.

Nintendo also made more announcements about games coming soon to 3DS. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is coming out this summer but for now, players can get an exclusive 3D video in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf will be available on June 9. The game will feature new features and improvements to the entire game, including new species of animal neighbours, new customizations, and a new main street shopping area.

New downloadable games will be coming to the Nintendo eShop for 3DS, such as Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger (April 11), HarmoKnight (demo available on March 14, full game on March 28), and Kersploosh! (March 7). Classic Game Boy Color games Harvest Moon and Legend of the River King will be available in the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in the coming months.

For the Wii U, Nintendo is launching a Miiverse community that is dedicated to the Legend of Zelda series. Fans can join and discuss the franchise in the community.

Lego City Undercover for Wii U comes out on March 18. Nintendo revealed the names of some sections in the game, including Lego City Airport, Kings Court and Paradise Sands.
