Do you like superheroes protecting the world from alien invaders? Chances are that you watched THE AVENGERS and your answer is a resounding “yes.” Now what if, instead of six superheroes, there were 100?
THE WONDERFUL 101 is a game which promises “mass hero action” exclusively for the Wii U, but doesn’t hand the player dozens of characters from the very beginning. The courageous Wonder-Red is at the forefront of the action, and soon draws fellow heroes to his cause against the villainous GEATHJERK, such as Wonder-Blue and Wonder-Pink, each of who unlocks a Unite Morph.
To transform your heroes with a Unite Morph you can choose between drawing symbols on the GamePad screen or with the right Control Stick. Drawing a straight line forms them into a Unite Sword to swing at your foes, while a right angle creates a Unite Gun to fire at flying enemies. Oh, and the Unite Gun’s ammunition? Heroes, of course!
You can send Wonder-Energy to average citizens, transforming them into heroes for your fight against the invaders. While these heroes can only strengthen your forces, you will be at your most powerful after you’ve recruited the rest of the Wonderful 100, including Wonder-Guitar, Wonder-Chef, and Wonder-Astronaut.
The Unite Morphs that your heroes create together can be used to clobber aliens, but also to solve puzzles like getting from one building to another, or climbing a huge wall. No matter what you’re trying to do accomplish in THE WONDERFUL 101 the message is the same: it’s always better to have friends on your side.
With that in mind, feel free to grab up to four of your own and jump into a co-op multiplayer game where one player controls the GamePad and the others grab either a Wii U Pro Controller or Wii Remote with Classic Controller attached. Your heroes may be small compared to the monsters they face, but by coming together they can succeed at saving the world.
THE WONDERFUL 101 hit game stores everywhere on September 15. Let us know what you think of the game by leaving a comment below!
