Easton, Connecticut, is home to the centuries old Union Cemetery, what some call the most haunted graveyard in the United States. And they just might be right.
TRAFFIC STOP
Local police routinely patrol the cemetery, keeping an eye out for would-be ghost hunters and other curiosity seekers. Some people don’t have to go behind the gates though to have a run in with its famous “White Lady”. Sightings of the White Lady began in the late 1940s. She is thought to be looking for her baby, who died at the same time and is buried with her. The woman, who looks like she might have been in her 30s when she died, has dark hair, is dressed in a white flowing dress and bonnet and makes a point of standing in the middle of the road that runs outside the cemetery. Many people have reported hitting her with their vehicle, but only once has actual damage been done to a car.
THE DENT
It was 1993 when a man was driving past and hit the White Lady. Right before the hit, a ghostly man appeared in the front passenger seat, only to disappear after the accident occurred. A large dent was left in the car.
HORRIBLE HISTORY
The White Lady is not the only spirit at Union Cemetery. While it is a resting place for the deceased, it also has a terrible and tragic history. On or near the grounds, a man has blown himself up with dynamite, two teenage girls have been killed in a car accident, a young boy has been possessed by a demon and a man has been killed by a driver under the influence. These are just some of the horrible events that have occurred in and around the cemetery. How many spirits of these unfortunate people walk among the headstones after dark?
MUCH EVIDENCE
Phantom footsteps have been known to chase away visitors, ghosts throw stones and sets of red glowing eyes stare at you from the trees. Full and partial body apparitions have been captured on film by thousands of different ghost hunters. Many have tried to communicate with the spirits, usually successfully, with Ouija Boards and through other methods. No one knows just how many ghosts haunt the cemetery; it could be dozens, or hundreds. The mystery also remains if the White Lady will ever find her baby after 60 years of searching.
