Move over, Smurfs. These guys deserve a shot at the big screen!
10. DEFENDERS OF THE EARTH
Earth is being attacked by intergalactic villains! Naturally, the Defenders of the Earth are on duty. The show’s main attraction was that the Defenders were made up of several classic comic book heroes and their offspring—a draw for all generations to enjoy.
9. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS
This fantasy cartoon took you across a world of swords and sorcery. The family friendly action was a mere cover for well-developed characters and an epic storyline about a group of friends trying to go home. ERAGON got a movie, so why not this?
8. RAINBOW BRITE
How can you not like a show about an orphan finding her place in a world filled with colours? As a defender of the world’s colour supply, Rainbow Brite had many adventures spreading joy to her friends. Paint this cheerful little story in animation and call it day.
7. GUMMIBEARS
While it would not work so well as a live-action movie, Gummibears might be a great animated flick. Just picture these cute and cuddly bears bouncing all over the big screen, throw in a Disney-esque musical score, and you could have a surprise hit.
6. CAPTAIN N: THE GAME MASTER
Featuring so many Nintendo licensed characters, this could be a gamer’s dream. Given the show’s fantasy elements and array of heroes and villains, the movie could be an epic showdown between good and evil, complete with magnificent battles and settings.
5. SHE-RA
She-Ra was a role model for younger viewers in the ‘80s, and that still hasn’t changed. Give the mighty princess a Hollywood makeover (Malin Akerman, maybe?), keep the moral themes and add some dynamic battles against the forces of evil!
4. HE-MAN
With the right actor, a theatrical He-Man would beamazing. The transformation from scrawny Prince Adam to mighty He-Man wouldn’t be too much of a problem with special effects, and the fighting against Skeletor and company would make for some great action.
3. CHIP ‘N DALE RESCUE RANGERS
Dear Alvin and the Chipmunks: Is there room for more chipmunks on the big screen? Likely, especially for this adorable duo. Against unlikely foes in extraordinary places, these adventuresome Rangers always won out. An animated, action flick waiting to happen? We think so.
2. DUCKTALES
Creativity would be the driving force behind this movie. Multibillionaire Scrooge McDuck and his nephews get to travel the world, and the imaginative villains and adventures that they encounter would be worthy of any classic film.
1. JEM
This is one cartoon that would definitely benefit from a live-action remake. Like Hannah Montana, Jem is a young rock star leading a double life. With its punkish edge and some crazy ‘80s styling though, you’d forget all about Miley what’s-her-name.
