With the release of Captain America: The First Avenger just days away, we thought we’d give you a list of some of the best superpowers in all of comic book history.
10. Superhuman Speed: Some people are faster than others, but nobody is faster than a person with superhuman speed. The Flash would be a perfect example. He can run faster than the speed of light, enabling him to get places in a matter of seconds. Overall, you wouldn’t want to race a person with superhuman speed.
9.Wall Crawling and Web Slinging: The ability to adhere to solid surfaces and shoot webs from your wrists is pretty neat. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman can do that with ease, making it incredibly hard for villains to notice him before he makes his grand entrance.
8. Waterbreathing: Try as you might, breathing under water is physically impossible. Unless you’re Aquaman that is! Aquaman has the ability to breathe under water in the absence of a gaseous medium. This seems like a necessary power if you happen to be the king of Atlantis, which was submerged in the ocean after the Great Cataclysm.
7. Object Based Powers: Object based powers are powers derived from objects. The object could range from Green Lantern’s Ring, to Iron Man’s armour. Without the object, the person is powerless, but with the object, they could be unstoppable. Often times the object will fall into the wrong hands which can lead to serious trouble!
6. Weather Manipulation: Have you ever wanted it to stop raining? Well, if you had the power of weather manipulation, you could make it stop. Weather manipulation is the ability to control or mentally affect the weather. Thor, the god of thunder, can create thunderstorms whenever he pleases.
5. Superhuman Durability: Imagine being punched, but not feeling anything. That’s what it would be like if you had superhuman durability. Luke Cage is a superhero that can withstand almost anything, including a bullet! He doesn’t have much to worry about when fighting, because he can handle anything that comes his way.
4. Shapeshifting: Shapeshifters can turn into pretty much anything. They can become inanimate objects or animals, you name it. There are specific types of shapeshifters, for example, animal morphing. Beast Boy, from Teen Titans, is an animal morpher, allowing him to turn into any animal he can think of.
3. Teleportation: Many people want this ability when they’re late for something. Teleporting is the process of moving from one place to another without occupying the space in between. Nightcrawler, from X-Men has this ability, allowing him to be wherever he wants whenever he wants to be there.
2. Superhuman Breath: Superhuman breath is the ability to inhale and exhale with superhumanly powerful strength. Superman can do a lot with his breath. For example, he can extinguish large fires, move large objects such as cars, and freeze an entire person!
1. Mutations: Mutations are cool because they can lead to many different super powers. If you think about the X-Men, each member has a different super power based on their specific mutation. For example, Iceman has the ability to exponentially decrease the temperature of ambient water vapor in the immediate environment, while Wolverine has an accelerated healing process.
