So you may not have been bitten by a radioactive spider or come from another planet, but who says you can’t have superhero qualities too? Here’s our practical guide on how to…
CLIMB LIKE SPIDER-MAN
No natural wall-climbing abilities? No problem. Grab a rope and master the art of rope climbing:
– Hold the rope between your hands, then jump up and pull down the rope at the same time.
– Immediately secure your legs so that one ankle is wrapped completely around the rope.
– Reach up and put one hand above the other while grasping the rope.
– Squeeze your stomach muscles to help bring your legs up towards your arms.
– Place your other hand over the first and repeat.
CONTROL THE WEATHER LIKE STORM
Okay, so you can’t really control the weather, but you can be a step ahead of it. If you’re ever out camping or are somewhere where you can’t check your local weather station (is it ever accurate anyway?), keep these telltale signs and facts in mind:
– Weather systems usually move from west to east.
– If the sun rises in the east looking red, that means that some rainy weather could be headed your way.
– Sometimes, you’ll notice a hazy ring around the moon. The brighter the ring, the more likely there will be rain or snow soon.
– In the morning, a rainbow in the western skies means that rain will most likely follow.
READ MINDS LIKE PROFESSOR XAVIER
One of the best ways to tell what’s on someone’s mind is to study his or her body language. What are some unconscious messages that the body is sending and how do you interpret them?
IF SOMEONE…. | THEN HE/SHE IS MOST LIKELY… |
Touches the face, throat or mouth while talking, avoids eye contact or smiles with the mouth only | Not being entirely truthful |
Has hands on the table | Agrees with you |
Is leaning towards you | Is interested in you or what you’re saying |
Pulling his/her ear | Feeling indecisive |
LIFT A HEAVY OBJECT LIKE SUPERMAN
Superman easily lifts cars or saves people trapped under debris from buildings. While you might not have his super strength, you can do your share of heavy lifting with the right tools:
– Get a lever and fulcrum. A lever can be a piece of wood or anything sturdy and long. A fulcrum must be sturdy too and can be something like a brick.
– Place the fulcrum close to the object you want to lift and rest the lever on top. Make sure the lever is slipped under the object.
– Push down on the opposite end of the lever to lift the object.
– You may have to experiment with the placement of the fulcrum.
– The longer the lever is, the less force you will have to use to push down and lift the object.
HEAL LIKE WOLVERINE
Wolverine’s mutant ability allows him to heal wounds almost instantly. You can treat wounds just as effectively by doing the following:
– Douse the wound with clean water. Putting pressure behind the water (like if you were to squeeze a water bottle) works best.
– Press a clean bandage to the wound. Try not to lift the bandage. If the wound is on the head, do not push on the wound, but do keep it covered.
– If possible, lift the part of the body with the wound above the heart.
– Get yourself or the injured person to a doctor immediately.
Even superheroes need help sometimes. If you or someone you know is ever caught in a serious situation, get help from your parents/guardians or a trained professional.
