ROUND 1: TASTE TEST
MR. SUB: Mr. Sub has 24 different kinds of subs to choose from, including everything from the classic Assorted Cold Cuts sub to Seafood with Crab and Louisiana Chicken to Mediterranean Grilled Veggie. Plus, Mr. Sub’s mouth-watering “Secret Sauce” is hard to compete with.
SUBWAY: Subway offers 16 subs such as the Cold Cut Combo, Subway Club, and Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki. If you’re lucky enough to live in a certain region, Subway also has six special options like the Seafood Sensation or Montreal Smoked Meat. But beware of their toasted subs; the bread flakes and falls apart.

When it comes to flavours, Mr. Sub has “More Than Enough!” Subway stalls at the gate.
SCORE: MR. SUB – 1
SUBWAY – 0

ROUND 2: FAT FIGHT
MR. SUB: Subs may be delicious, but are they nutritious? That’s the question. It’s true that submarines are a healthy alternative to most other fast foods, but not all subs are made equal. Mr. Sub’s 6″ Maple Baked Ham sub contains about 4.5g of fat, while its Meatball sub has 14g and the Albacore Tuna sub contains 9g.
SUBWAY: In comparison, Subway fares much worse. Its Ham sub has 5g of fat, which isn’t a significant difference from Mr. Sub’s Maple Baked Ham sandwich. However, Subway’s Meatball Marinara sub contains 24g of fat and its Tuna sub has a hefty 30g – more than triple the fat of Mr. Sub’s Tuna sub! Go easy on the mayo!

Jared the Subway Guy gains a few pounds, tipping the scales in Mr. Sub’s favour!
SCORE: MR. SUB – 2
SUBWAY – 0

ROUND 3: MENU MELEE
MR. SUB: You won’t find French fries served at Subway or Mr. Sub, but you will find a variety of food options besides simply submarine sandwiches. In addition to its line of Premium and Specialty Subs, Mr. Sub also offers a variety of soups, salads, wraps, and cookies.
SUBWAY: On the other hand, Subway’s menu goes beyond lunch or dinner by selling breakfast sandwiches and wraps with egg, cheese, bacon, ham, or steak! At Subway, you can also ditch the bun and make any 6″ sub into a fresh salad.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Subway wins its first point!
SCORE: MR. SUB – 2
SUBWAY – 1

ROUND 4: MADE IN CANADA
MR. SUB: Mr. Submarine, as it was originally called, was founded back in March 1968 in Toronto, Ontario. Its name was shortened to Mr. Sub in the 1990s and the chain has since expanded, bringing real Canadian quality to more than 450 stores across the country.
SUBWAY: When Subway first opened as “Pete’s Submarines” in Connecticut in 1965, founder Fred De Luca simply wanted to raise money to pay for college. Eventually, he transformed his little sub shop into a multibillion dollar franchise with over 28,000 locations worldwide and 2,300 in Canada alone. Perhaps now he can afford to offer more sandwich varieties.

They don’t call it “Mister” for nothing. Everything tastes better when it’s Canadian! Mr. Sub scores!
SCORE: MR. SUB – 3
SUBWAY – 1

ROUND 5: THE BOTTOM DOLLAR
MR. SUB: Although prices may vary by store, Mr. Sub tends to have lower prices than its American competitor. In the market studied for the purposes of this price comparison, most of Mr. Sub’s 6″ sandwiches cost between $3.99 (Veggie) to $4.99 (Santa Fe Spicy Chicken).
SUBWAY: Meanwhile, at the closest Subway store, its “6 grams of fat or less” choices range in price from $3.99 (Veggie Delite) to $5.49 (Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki). I guess it costs more to have a “Subway Sandwich Artist” toss three slices of cucumber and a handful of lettuce on a bun.

Subway’s sandwiches may taste sweet, but its prices do not. Mr. Sub steals the final point.
SCORE: MR. SUB – 4
SUBWAY – 1

ROUND UP: Subway isn’t “The Way a Sandwich Should Be.” The submarine chain from south of the border is one way, but it isn’t the better way. Mr. Sub serves up a true Canadian taste that is both lower in fat and cost. Plus, with so many flavours to choose from, it’s no wonder that “There’s Always Something Good Going Down at Mr. Sub!” So, don’t “Eat Fresh.” Eat smart.
