When CLUELESS first came out in 1995, nobody really expected it to be successful, so many were surprised when it opened at number two, behind APOLLO 13, on its opening weekend and went on to be named a new classic in 2008 by Entertainment Weekly. Hoping to find its way into the hearts of today’s audiences, CLUELESS came out on Blu-ray last week.
Loosely based on EMMA by Jane Austen, CLUELESS tells the story of Cher, a spoiled teen from the West Coast who occupies herself with the easiest thing to do with money: shopping. When her ex-stepbrother visits from college and tells her that he sees her going nowhere in life but the mall, Cher decides that it’s time to start doing good deeds.
Between playing matchmaker with two teachers and transforming an unpopular girl at school, Cher realizes that she actually likes being a Good Samaritan and that maybe love can be more important than money.
The movie might seem like your average Hollywood-spun chick flick, but its twisty storyline, quirky characters and witty comedy are what make it a tried and true crowd-pleaser. With its enhanced sound and picture quality, the Blu-ray version gives an old favourite a welcomed facelift!
