It’s the 50th anniversary of DOCTOR WHO! To celebrate, the BBC (and BBC America) will be broadcasting a special 75-minute episode entitled “The Day of the Doctor” on November 23. It will also air in select movie theatres in 3D!

According to BBC America, the episode features some pretty crazy action and a darker plot that takes place simultaneously in different time periods: “In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s dangerous past comes back to haunt him.” Uh oh! It sounds like it will be a nail-biting 75 minutes.

The anniversary special was shot this past spring in Cardiff, Wales, where the production is based. The series began its broadcast on November 23, 1963 – and has now become the longest-running sci-fi series in television history!

And don’t forget to check out BBC America in the coming week, as there will be a ton of special programming including marathons, behind-the-scenes specials, and a look at the physics that allow the Time Lord to travel through space and time! Don’t forget to check out some of the special online videos, including a mini episode!
