If fans of the Disney comedy Shake It Up have followed the chatter, they already know the show is expanding into its first full‑length movie, Shake It Up: Made in Japan. The story sends Rocky and CeCe to Japan to star in a dance video game and to navigate a string of surprising challenges along the way. Bella Thorne and Zendaya contribute new songs and sing on screen, marking a milestone for the series.
In a recent interview, Bella Thorne, who plays CeCe Jones, shared thoughts on the movie and what fans can expect from the new adventure.
Who would be your dream guest star on SHAKE IT UP?
“I Am 5. They’re fantastic, and I’d love for everyone to see them on SHAKE IT UP.”
SHAKE IT UP: MADE IN JAPAN wasn’t filmed in Japan. If a trip to Japan ever happened, what would she most want to see or do there?
She would really want to explore shopping streets because the style there is unique. Japanese fashion threads through the film’s storyline, and she also looks forward to tasting authentic sushi.
What was your favourite part about filming the movie?
Two moments stood out. One features Rocky and CeCe in a full‑blown friend war, a twist because Zendaya and she rarely argue on screen. It offered a fresh glimpse of their characters. The other highlight was a scene performed before a live audience with head mics, something she had never done before.
It’s clear from her outfits that she has a distinctive sense of style. What, in her view, is the biggest fashion crime someone could commit?
She believes there aren’t real fashion crimes. If you like what you’re wearing and feel comfortable, who cares about not being on a best‑dressed list? The key is staying true to yourself and wearing what you like.
Thanks, Bella!
Fans can look forward to more upcoming conversations with Zendaya as well. Shake It Up: MADE IN JAPAN premieres on Family Channel.
