Since making a splash on the acting scene only two years ago, Jaylen Barron has already launched a career that most actors would dream of. The 15-year-old is best known for role as Mary, the spirited girl next door on the Nick at Nite comedy, SEE DAD RUN. Along with acting on SHAKE IT UP, Jaylen is a competitive cheerleader and dancer. Next, we’ll see her head to Disney Channel’s GOOD LUCK CHARLIE, where she’s play Lauren, a love interest for Gabe. The Magazine got a chance to catch up with Jaylen about her success as an actress and future plans!
How did you first become interested in acting?
I first become interested when I was in kindergarten. I started doing plays and then I realized it was what I really wanted to do!
Did you take any lessons?
I did! Two years ago, when I started acting, I actually took a course where I did acting workshops. I learned a lot about acting and I also learned a lot about the technical side of it, too.
What’s been your most challenging role so far?
I’d say the role that’s hardest for me is to play a mean girl. That’s so hard for me to do! I asked my coach once and he told my mom and me that once I master the role of a mean girl, then I’ve got the hang of acting!
What was it like being part of this year’s Kids’ Choice Awards?
It was really, really fun because it was my first year being there. Everything was really new to me, including the fans screaming my name. It was really cool to get recognized by that many people — have them know who I am and be able to sign autographs.
If you could play any character in the remake of any movie, who would it be and why?
It’s tough to play, but I would choose to play Cleopatra in the remake of Elizabeth Taylor’s movie. I would like to play her because I’ve always been interested in Cleopatra and to play such a strong, independent woman would be great. It would be a privilege to be able to play that role!
Who inspires you as an actress?
I’m still learning as an actress. I’m still watching the art of it. At this point, it’s really hard to pick a favourite!
If you couldn’t be an actress, which other career would you be interested in?
Definitely a veterinarian! I’ve always loved animals.
What’s the next thing you have coming up?
Well, right now we’re working on season two of SEE DAD RUN and I’m currently playing a recurring role [as Lauren] on GOOD LUCK CHARLIE on the Disney Channel!
