Mia Rose Frampton is the daughter of legendary rocker, Peter Frampton. Combining her musical talent and experiences on television and in film, Mia is making a name for herself, too. Since her breakout role on ABC’s MAKE IT OR BREAK IT, Mia has acted alongside Kristen Wiig in BRIDESMAIDS and starred with Oscar Nominee and Golden Globe Winner Ed Harris in THAT’S WHAT I AM. She is now working on GBF, a new comedy set to have it’s world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. THE MAGAZINE recently had a chance to catch up with Mia about her busy life in the entertainment industry. Here’s what she had to say!
Out of all the characters you’ve played, which was your favourite?
I like all of them for different reasons, but one role that was very close to my heart was Mary Clear in THAT’S WHAT I AM. It dealt with such a current topic of bullying. It had a great message!
What is your favourite type of acting to do?
Probably improv. I like coming up with things out of the blue and I’ve always loved making people laugh and having a good time. I love acting with other people and working off of them.
If you had the choice to play any character you want, who would it be and why?
Hmm… my dream is to do Shakespeare. I’d love to play Juliet from ROMEO AND JULIET. Shakespeare’s writing style is very interesting, yet everyone who has ever played a Shakespearean character has their own take on it.
What’s it like being the daughter of the legendary musician, Peter Frampton?
I always think that’s a funny question! To me, it’s just my dad and I’m very proud of him. I’m happy that he gets to do what he loves everyday. I sing and play guitar and we have played music together. Even though he is my dad, it’s still pretty intimidating!
How are your musical endeavours coming along?
I’ve been playing guitar since I was about 12 years old. It’sdefinitelyan instrument you have to work at continuously, but I think it’s one of the coolest instruments. Everyone can have their own unique style. Overall, it’s coming along, but I want to wait before venturing into that side of the business. I’ve definitely thought about developing a music career, but I think I want to be more advanced on guitar before I start that.
What’s your favourite style of music to play/listen to?
Probably R&B. Not old style R&B, but new style R&B like Frank Ocean. He’s my favourite artist at the moment.
Are you currently working on any new projects?
It’s still pilot season, so I’m busy with auditions and I’m also starting college prep. I just got into a program at NYU Tisch. It’s called the Meisner Method, a combination of two acting methods. That’s what I’m preparing for in the summer.
Who would you say is your greatest inspiration?
I love Drew Barrymore just because I love her progression and that’s a career I would want for myself in the future. She was amazing in GREY GARDENS and she can do romantic comedies and dramas. Obviously I love Meryl Streep. Naomi Watts is also one of my favourites! There’s also Anne Hathaway, who was amazing in LES MISERABLES.
What important show biz lessons have you’ve learned so far?
It’s very hard and it can tear you down sometimes, but I’ve learned to let things go and never take anything too seriously. I try to remember that there are a million other jobs in the world that anyone can do, but I think that getting to be somebody else as a profession is pretty fantastic!
Thank you, Mia!
