February marks a packed month for Canadian pop talent Shawn Desman. His fourth studio album and the film Alive drop on February 5, and a cross‑Canada tour kicks off February 7 in Montreal. The three projects weave together: the album’s self‑penned songs form the film’s soundtrack, and the same tracks will headline the live show. We spoke with Shawn about the busy schedule and the people who spark his dum da dum moment.

Alive debuts on MuchMusic February 5 at 7 p.m. The film follows a girl from Fergus, Ontario who longs to move to the big city to train as a dancer. She pursues that dream and faces a few hurdles along the way. The message centers on positivity, chasing goals, and doing what one loves.

Desman emphasizes involvement in every facet of his projects because it carries his name and face on the final product.

Looking ahead, he would welcome more acting roles if the right opportunities arise; he is fully on board.

Songs on Alive carry messages of positivity, love, and the realities of life in the music industry, rather than club scenes or partying.

Sonically, Alive leans toward pop with a more organic feel, featuring more piano and guitar than previous work.

Two tracks stand out: Too Young To Care and Run. Too Young To Care is the upcoming single, and Run stands out for its musical exploration compared with his earlier material.

The single Dum Da Dum captures the moment when meeting someone special triggers a tune you hum on the way home.

What makes him say dum da dum? People who have left a strong impression, someone attractive, witty, and able to match his goofy vibe.

On tour, attendees can expect fresh tracks, some deeper cuts, familiar hits, plus performances by his dancers and band, with plenty of dancing and energy. It marks his first headlining tour.

Which songs spark the biggest excitement for the live shows? Too Young To Care is high on the list, though every track represents a different moment in his life.

After the tour, a new single and its video are planned, followed by a dance competition in April and May. Then a summer run along the Canadian east coast is likely, with recording and collaborations in the works. He is collaborating with The Switch, who will perform an acoustic set at the Mississauga appearance.

Fans are encouraged to pick up Alive on stores and iTunes February 5, with MuchMusic broadcast premiere at 7 p.m. EST on the same date, and a city near you starting February 7 for the tour kickoff.

Further details about the film will be covered in the Toronto red‑carpet premiere coverage.
