Family Channel’s show WINGIN’ IT is sadly coming to an end on May 25 after three seasons. WINGIN’ IT follows the entertaining and hilarious adventures of Carl Montclaire (Everett) and Porter Jackson (Joyette). Porter is an Angel-In-Training who needs to make Carl the most popular kid at Bennett High so that he can get his wings and fully become an angel.

THE MAGAZINE caught up with Dylan and Demetrius to talk about their time on the show and what the future has in store for them!

How are you feeling as WINGIN’ IT’s coming to an end?

Demetrius: Pretty sad, to be honest. I had such a great time working on the show. We had such a great run but it ended perfectly. I don’t think the show could’ve ended any other way.

Dylan: It’s definitely bittersweet. Whenever you wrap up on a set, it’s sort of like leaving a temporary family.

What will you miss most about the show?

Demetrius: Working with everybody and doing the crazy stuff we got to do. We were working for 12 hours a day, every day. So we became a big family.

Dylan: I’ll miss working with the cast and crew. The atmosphere on WINGIN’ IT was truly amazing so I’ll definitely miss that.

Sounds like a tight-knit team! Do you have a favourite funny memory from filming with the cast?

Demetrius: Dylan and I were doing some promotional stuff where we pelted the camera with Jello. But there was one little cup of Jello left over and Dylan decided to throw it on me, so I chased him down. I saw a giant bucket of water on the ground and I just doused him with it! It was pretty funny!

Dylan: I had a lot of fun doing the dance number, which involved the main cast. I’m barely remotely athletic! Luckily we had a choreographer and he saved my skin!

What was your favourite episode to film?

Demetrius: The film noir episode (“Don’t Dimension It”) where we got to pretend we were old-fashioned New York mobsters. I think that was so much fun because I got to put on a suit and accent!

Dylan: The dream episode (“Alex in Slumberland”) because I got to play a leprechaun. Everyone was a goofy character and it was full of crazy nonsense! I also enjoyed filming the last episode because it was a very powerful one.

What should fans look forward to in the series finale?

Demetrius: They should look forward to something to be happy about and something to be sad about. It’s definitely a long-awaited conclusion to the WINGIN’ IT saga.

Dylan: They should expect a bit of a surprise. Generally, I think fans should know what to expect because that’s what the show has been building up towards for three seasons. I actually got to name the episode, which was really cool!

How has your character evolved since the first season?

Demetrius: Porter started off as a very ambitious and cool character who thought he knew everything. But as we progress through the seasons, he became better with Carl and his journey.

Dylan: In the first season, Carl Montclaire was a train wreck! He was the unluckiest guy ever and he could never figure it out. So when he gets Porter, Porter teaches him how to be cool, which is hilarious because 90% of the time, Porter gets him in these crazy situations and it’s Carl that has to get them out.

Are you at all like your character?

Demetirus: When Porter has his moments of clarity and he finds good solutions to a problem, that’s exactly like me. I like to take my time and figure out situations. A lot of the time, I also get myself in sticky situations because I thought I knew what I was doing when I actually didn’t.

Dylan: There’s similarity between us because Carl is just trying to get through high school. Even though I only went to high school for Grade 9, we both tried to keep our head down and make it through the year.

How did you get your start in acting?

Demetrius: I started off in modeling when I was six or seven. When I was younger, my mom got me involved in a lot of extracurricular activities. Acting and modeling just happened to be one of them. From there, I’ve been working ever since.

Dylan: I started eight years ago, when I was 10. My sister had been doing it for years and I always wanted to do it. So when I was 10, my mom said, “Yeah, sure” and that snowballed into me getting into the business. I love the industry and the people I work with.

Who inspires you as an actor?

Demetrius: I really like Robert Downey Jr., Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington and Will Smith. I admire their ability to do such big and long-running productions. They’re so dedicated to their project and their performances really shine through in such a clear fashion.

Dylan: Off the top of my head, Leonardo DiCaprio, Heath Ledger, Tom Hardy, Shia LaBoeuf and the list goes on.

What is your most played song on your iTunes right now?

Demetrius: “No New Friends” by Drake.

Dylan: “5 AM In Toronto” by Drake.

What’s your favourite thing to do in the summer?

Demetrius: I love working on my car. I love racing and pretty much anything to do with my car. I have an Acura Integra.

Dylan: Hanging out with friends, camping, sports, the usual. I’m a pretty generic teenager.

What’s next for you?

Demetrius: I’m currently on DEGRASSI, so I’m working through that. And after that, I don’t know. We’ll see where life takes me! I want to continue acting on the side, but I also want to start my own business related to cars.

Dylan: I’ve got a feature film called SKATING TO NEW YORK that’s coming out fairly shortly. It’s in post-production right now. Generally, I just want to be happy and proud of the work I’ve done. I would really like to continue working because I just love what I do.

Thanks, Dylan and Demetrius! Tune into Family Channel on May 25 at 11:30 a.m. to catch the series finale of WINGIN’ IT!
