It’s a shame that so many good films come to disappointing endings. This, however, was certainly not the case for HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2. The final instalment of Harry Potter definitely lived up to all the hype it received before its release in theatres today. This film is filled with excitement, sorrow, and triumph, and was the perfect way to finish off the last third of the book.

In contrast to part 1, this movie feels like one big battle; a culminating battle, if you will. While this had the potential to become quite tiresome, the fights are so perfectly executed that you’ll forget magic doesn’t actually exist. The special effects have certainly come a long way since the first instalment almost a decade ago. The battles and fights are absolutely stunning, and will surely leave you on the edge of your seat.

An aspect of the film that was quite striking was the quality of acting displayed by all the actors. Namely, Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) who will send shivers down your spine with every word he utters. We also see that Daniel Radcliffe has turned into quite an impressive actor, who can handle massive combat scenes, while still maintaining composure during quiet emotional scenes. Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) provides some comic relief throughout the movie, while Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) keeps everybody focused on the task at hand.

We also say hello to some characters we haven’t seen in a while, who play pivotal roles in this movie. For example, Neville Longbottom and Professor McGonagall, who help Harry and his team fortify the castle.

When comparing this movie to previous instalments, we can see just how dark and comprehensive the movies have become. Gone are the days where Hogwarts students and staff can walk freely in the halls, without having to worry about what may be lurking around the corner. Gone are the friendly quidditch matches between different houses. And gone is the school that was once a safe and desirable place to be. All of this has been replaced with Voldemort’s army, which will stop at nothing to capture Harry Potter.

Even though a significant number of viewers already know how the movie will end, that won’t stop them from shedding a tear during some scenes. The stellar combination of music and acting makes this the most emotional film in the series, by far. While the movie can suspend reality, viewers always know deep down inside that this may very well be the last time they lay eyes on Harry Potter. There won’t be a dry eye in the theatre.

Overall, this is a four star finale. The film is visually stunning, and superbly acted. The cast and crew really paid attention to the details which enhances the film in a significant way. The 2 hours and 15 minutes will feel like 30 seconds as you are transported into the magical world of Harry Potter for one last time.
