Look out! SPACE channel’s entertainment news show, InnerSPACE, is now in HD, which means you get to see co-hosts Ajay Fry and Teddy Wilson with new co-host Cynthia Loyst in high def—every night, Monday to Friday! Here, Ajay, Teddy and Cynthia chat about the new show and more:
What makes InnerSPACE new and exciting?
Ajay: We recently made the switch to HD, which is new for us! But what makes the show new and exciting is our take on the content. We’re not a gossip or fluff show. We focus on the people, places and processes behind the great content we love, while adding our own perspective and opinions. Every episode we feature feedback from our viewers as well, to ensure everyone is involved in the conversation.
What are 3 essential fantasy movies or shows that our readers need to watch right now?
Ajay:
THE SECRET CIRCLE TV series on SPACE, Wednesdays at 9. It’s a bit like TWILIGHT, but instead of vampires and werewolves, it’s about teenage witches, and the show is a lot smarter than you might think at first glance.
Look out for THE HUNGER GAMES in 2012 based on the series of books. This is going to be the next big thing of “Potter or Twilight” proportions.
InnerSPACE! Sure, I’m biased because it’s my own show… but if there’s another show you should be watching, we’ll tell you about it there first.
Teddy:
STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Probably the greatest sequel ever made. If you haven’t seen it, I won’t ruin the plot by telling you who Luke Skywalker’s real father is. I’ll just say WOW. Dark stuff. Makes the first STAR WARS film look like an episode of DORA THE EXPLORER.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. It’s rare that a TV show based on an old TV show (or ‘re-imagined series’ as its hip to call them) is amazing, but BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is one of the exceptions. The ‘new’ series ran from 2004 to 2009 and helped make science fiction awesome again. This show gave me butterflies too many times to count.
THE DARK CRYSTAL. From the mind of MUPPET SHOW creator and animatronics genius Jim Henson, this strange and surreal vision of a mythical land inhabited by Gelflings, Skeksis and Podlings still holds up incredibly even today. Way ahead of its time. If you like the Narnia films, this is definitely one to check out. (Honourable mention to Jim Henson’s LABYRINTH… told you I’d have trouble sticking to 3!)
Cynthia:
SECRET CIRCLE is a fun new series on SPACE that follows a group of witchy teenagers in a small town who have magical powers. It’s kind of like TWILIGHT meets CHARMED.
And of course TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL is the Gemini award winning series, which also airs on SPACE that’s about a book of…ahem…pure evil that can make teenagers deepest, darkest desires come true, but not without causing some trouble. The show is edgy, hilarious and slightly off colour—kind of like THE EVIL DEAD meets THE BREAKFAST CLUB.
Speaking of THE EVIL DEAD, if you’ve never seen those movies, they are the perfect trilogy for Halloween! Director Sam Raimi (of SPIDER-MAN fame) has been making films since he was a teenager and he made the first EVIL DEAD movie when he was only in his early twenties. All three of the EVIL DEAD movies are a perfect blend of camp, gore and creep. And Bruce Campbell’s performance of a man under a supernatural siege is simply brilliant.
Who would you love to have on the show?
Ajay: I interviewed Daniel Radcliffe on the set of Harry Potter a couple of years ago in London. Of all the celebrities I’ve met he was honestly one of the most genuine and pleasant. Not to mention cool, insightful and clever. It would be awesome to have him in studio.
Teddy: I’ve already been VERY lucky to interview some of my heroes on InnerSPACE, but top of my wish list is director Steven Spielberg.
Cynthia: Living or dead? If we’re talking living, I think it would be hilarious to have the cast from TWILIGHT on the show and to watch the fans go crazy for RPatz, Taylor and the rest of the vampire gang. And if we’re talking about those who have moved on from this world, I would have to say horror master Alfred Hitchcock and the master of the TWILIGHT ZONE, Rod Serling. Together. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
Thank you Ajay, Teddy and Cynthia!
