Can’t get enough Mr. Young? Class is back in session tonight with the premiere of MR. YOUNG season two tonight at 6pm on YTV!
The hour-long special has Adam Young (Brendan Meyer), Derby (Gig Morton) and the rest of the gang leaving the school and heading out for the exotic country of Sanduras for Spring Break.
The Mag got the chance to chat with Derby actor, Gig Morton, about the show, tap dancing and more!
What are your favourite things about getting to play Derby?
All the crazy costumes and the jokes! I also love the way he talks.
What is your favourite episode and why?
MR. INVENTOR, because Derby made up this hair formula and got really popular, but Adam said that he didn’t figure it out scientifically. Derby thought that he would get really famous for it, but instead it just ended up blowing up in his face.
Is Derby like you in any way?
I would say randomness-wise and silliness, he’s pretty similar!
How does it feel to perform for a live audience?
That’s actually one of my favourite things because I come from a theatre background and I really enjoy interacting with the audience.
What’s another sort of character you’d like to play?
In general, I’d like to play a superhero of some sort!
Who is your favourite super hero right now?
Iron Man and Captain America are my favourite.
Are you and Brendan friends off-camera too?
Yea, we get along really well because we’ve know each other for about five years because we’re with the same agency!
If you weren’t acting, what would you be doing?
Well I love to dance, so I would probably be doing that. Also, my favourite subject in school in science so I would probably be making robots or something like that!
Do you have any favourite songs to tap dance to?
Yeah, I love tap dancing! Right now I have a dance to COOLER THAN ME by Mike Posner.
Who are your favourite musicians?
Right now, as a singer I really like Michael Buble.
Do you sing as well?
Yeah, I sing because I come from musical theatre.
Is Gig your real name?
Yes, it is. When my dad was little, his little brother couldn’t say “Gary,” which is his name, so he would say “Gig.” I have three older sisters, so my mom said my dad could name me because she had named all the children, so he chose Gig.
Do you have any nicknames?
A ton! Giggles, Gigabyte, Giggers, the list goes on…
Thank you, Gig! Don’t miss the premiere of MR. YOUNG tonight and then check out ONE2ONE at 7pm when Carlos from THE ZONE sits down with Mr. Young himself, Brendan Meyer.
