AMERICAN IDOL has suffered some pretty significant losses this week. First, Steven Tyler announced that he was leaving the show. Then, only a few days later, Jennifer Lopez followed suit and will not be returning as a judge for the next season.
She explained to Ryan Seacrest that while she has loved her time on AMERICAN IDOL, it was stopping her from doing lots of other things like spending time with her family and working on her own music career. To give her some credit, she did release a new album last year, go on tour with Enrique Iglesias and shoot a movie that’s coming out this year. Juggling all that with being a judge on a show can’t be easy!
Don’t worry J.Lo fans; she might not be leaving the show completely. She revealed that she wouldn’t be opposed to coming back as a guest mentor once in a while and that she would always be there for the show if they needed her, describing her experience as “special.” She will be greatly missed!
The producers of AMERICAN IDOL now have their work cut out for them. Finding two judges to fill the extremely talented shoes of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will be no easy feat. It’ll be interesting to see who will join the show for season 12!
