We were invited to the North American premiere of Disney’s new movie, PRINCESS PROTECTION PROGRAM, which airs on Family Channel tonight at 8:00 p.m ET/PT. The event took place on June 18. We were lucky enough to interview the red carpet attendees, see the movie and attend the VIP After Party! As well, we got a chance to chat with the two stars from the movie, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez.

The Red Carpet

The red carpet was AMAZING! The attendees were:

*The cast of THE LATEST BUZZ (Zoe Belkin, Justin Kelly, Munro Chambers, Demetrius Joyette, and Vanessa Morgan);
*The cast of OVERRULED, which premieres in September 2009 on Family Channel (Jacob Kraemer, Jasmine Richards, Sally Taylor Isherwood and Nick Spencer);
*Two members of the cast from CAMP ROCK (Daniel Fathers and Jordan Francis);
*The cast of AARON STONE (Kelly Blatz, Tania Gunadi, David Lambert and J.P. Manoux);
*The cast of LIFE WITH DEREK (Michael Seater, Ashley Leggat, Ariel Waller and Daniel Magder);
*Madison De La Garza who is Demi’s little sister and a cast member of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES;
*Demi Lovato; and
*Selena Gomez.

Here is what some of them had to say:

CAMP ROCK

What was it like working with the Jonas Brothers?
Daniel: It was a lot of fun. They are extremely pleasant young men and extremely talented.
Jordan: The Jonas Brothers are cool and they are lots of fun. We got into trouble on and off set and they are just regular boys.

What other projects are you guys working on?
Michael: Today, we are announcing that we are doing VACATION WITH DEREK the LIFE WITH DEREK movie. [Also], I am about to go to Montreal to do another TV Series called 18 TO LIFE. Ashley just finished DIRTY DANCING and she’s fantastic. She was spectacular.

The Movie

PRINCESS PROTECTION PROGRAM is a cute adventure comedy. Rosalinda Marie Montoya Fiore (Demi Lovato) is preparing to become a queen but she soon finds herself in danger. Her mom enrolls her in the top secret Princess Protection Program and she is whisked away. She becomes a normal teen with a new name, Rosie Gonzalez, and moves in with Carter Mason (Selena Gomez). Carter’s job is to help Rosie blend in as a normal teen but little does she know that Rosie is actually helping her find her inner princess. They learn that even though they live two different lives, they can still be the best of friends. Together, Rosie and Carter help each other to survive high school bullies and crushes. They even plot to foil the plans of the evil group in Rosie’s country who won’t let her be queen.

The Interviews

We caught up with Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez to talk about their characters in the movie, their definition of a perfect Prince Charming, their friendship and their upcoming projects.

Can you describe your character?
Demi: My character is a princess and she’s used to a very rich life. She is high maintenance but she is not rude about it. She is spoiled but not rotten.
Selena: Carter is more of the tomboy character. She is very uncomfortable in her skin; she’s growing and she is starting to find out who she is. She has a character arc in the movie where Demi’s character teaches her how to be more open.

There are two potential Prince Charmings in the movie. What is your definition of a Prince Charming?
D: Someone that obviously is cute but what’s more important than that is a great sense of humour and a sense of intelligence and maturity.
S: Someone who is smart, who is nice and someone my parents like.

This movie is about two people who become friends despite their differences. What do you hope your fans will take from this message of “unlikely” friendship?
D: That no matter what style of life [people] live [they] can become friends.
S: I hope that they take heart out of it. I hope girlfriends watch it together. I hope you watch it with your best friend. I hope that you learn not to judge people and to learn from wherever they came from.

What was the most embarrassing moment on set?
D: I had to speak Spanish and at that time, I didn’t know Spanish that well and I didn’t really pronounce it right and when I watched it back, I laughed at myself.
S: When I am with Demi, every day is embarrassing. We just laugh. You know, it’s just nice to have someone [who] doesn’t make fun of you. I don’t think we had any embarrassing moments… just us being silly.

What is the best memory you have of being on set?
D: Probably, the last day of shooting. Selena and I both hugged each other and thought ‘WOW’… and looked back and thought about all the experiences we had and it was just such a great experience. We were very thankful for it.
S: It would have to be sitting on the lake. We were on this beautiful balcony shooting the scene and it was gorgeous and the weather was perfect.

What was your favourite scene and why?
D: The scene where Selena and I are walking together and we’re burping. It made me think of when we were home in Texas burping and being silly.
S: I would have to say the scene where I try on a bunch of clothes. I try on a bunch of dresses and at the end, Demi puts on a beautiful dress.

Selena, what was it like working with Demi, your BFF?
S: It was fun. It didn’t feel like work. It was like hanging out with your best friend.

Did you learn anything about Demi that you didn’t already know?
S: I don’t think that’s possible. I think I know almost everything there is to know about Demi.

Demi, your character Rosalinda is a princess. Would you want to be a princess for a day?
D: I would love to be a princess for a day and even better, I would love to be the Queen of England just for a day. I would love to see what it’s like.

What do you do when you are not working or in school?
D: I have actually graduated, so I don’t go to school anymore, but one day I would like to go to college. That would be cool. When I’m not working, I like to go to the movies with my friends, get my nails done, go shopping or sleep. I love sleeping.
S: I try to go home as much as possible. I am from Texas. So, I like to go home and be with my family. If not, I like to sit on the couch and watch movies with my friends. Just normal stuff.

Do you have a good luck charm?
D: I do. It’s my Mom.
S: I do. I have my ring. I wear this in everything I do. I actually wore it in the movie.

What are you listening to on your iPod right now?
D: I’m listening to Rascal Flatts and John Mayer.
S: Forever the Sickest Kids. I love them. I actually did a duet with them.

Selena, your debut album comes out later this year. What’s your favourite song off the album?
S: My favourite song would have to be “Fallen”. It’s basically a good song that anybody can relate to. It can be about a hard time you’re going through with a mean girl at school or some problem you’re [having] with your friends. It’s a good empowering song [that has] a good dance feel. So, I hope everyone likes it.

Demi, your new album, ‘Here We Go Again’, releases on July 21. What is your favourite song off the album?
D: A song called “Falling Over Me”. It’s a song about a boy and a girl in a room and they know that they are attracted to each other, but they are too nervous to speak to each other. It’s really cute. It’s a really mellow song.

Demi, you start filming CAMP ROCK 2 this fall. What can you tell us about the movie?
D: The second CAMP ROCK is going to be obviously like the first one but better. It’s going to have a new plot line, new characters and new music and it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Do you have any other upcoming projects that you want to share with your fans?
D: I am going on tour this summer and I would love for all of my fans to come see me wherever I am. Also, I would like to tell them about my album, CAMP ROCK 2 and SONNY WITH A CHANCE season 2.
S: WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE: THE MOVIE comes out in August and I’m really excited about it. There are so many different magic spells we’ve learned and there is a huge character arc with my character and my family. Then, my record [comes out] in September. [Also], season 3 of my show [will start shooting] in July and I shot a Fox movie called RAMONA AND BEEZUS, [which is based on] the Beverly Cleary books and it’s a good family movie. It will come out in March 2010.

Do you ever think back to that day you met your BFF at the Barney auditions and think, wow, how did we get here?
D: Of course, almost every single day. It’s just incredible that two random strangers can meet each other and become best friends and then share their lives together as best friends. It’s cool!
S: Yes, every time I am with her. Like tonight, we are going to be able to walk the carpet together and we are about to turn 17 together. It’s crazy. I always say that we are going to have a great story to tell our grandkids one day. It’s unbelievable how much we’ve gone through… just from the age of 7 to now.

Thank you Selena and Demi!
