OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL officially hit theatres on Friday, delivering nothing short of a fantasy-filled adventure for all ages. With flying monkeys, witches, tornadoes and emerald city awe, director Sam Raimi gives a fun update to the much-loved Oz story with some 21st century CGI magic. The Disney movie tells the tale of a hack magician named Oz (James Franco) who is well known around the local carnival circuit. When his hot air balloon gets pulled into a tornado, he is magically transported to the land of Oz. Upon arrival, he meets a witch named Theodora (Mila Kunis) and later, her two sisters Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams). Oz must figure out which of the three witches are evil, which are good and how to convince everyone that he is truly a great wizard worthy of the throne.
While the film is no match for the classic THE WIZARD OF OZ, it does have its fair share of enchanting moments, especially when it comes to stunning visuals that pull you into the magical land of Oz. You’re definitely going to want to watch this movie in 3D to really get into it. The movie has mix of action, drama, adventure and even a dash of romance. Though OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL doesn’t veer too far from the unexpected, it is still a fun movie worth a watch.
