The big screen is once again going blue for THE SMURFS 2, which is in theatres now!
This fun sequel takes place on Smurfette’s birthday. Smurfette (voiced by Katy Perry) wakes up from a nightmare that makes her feel that she doesn’t belong with the Smurfs, as it was the evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) who created her. Papa Smurf (voiced by Jonathan Winters) comforts Smurfette, reminding her that he taught her how to love and become a Smurf. He encourages her to get out in the Smurf Village and enjoy being with the Smurfs she has grown to call her family.
The other Smurfs are secretly planning a surprise birthday party for Smurfette, which she interprets as them forgetting about her big day. The Smurfs tell her to leave the village for a bit while they continue organizing the party. Hurt, Smurfette leaves the village crying, until she is kidnapped by Vexy, a “Naughty” creature created by Gargamel! Papa Smurf (along with Clumsy, Vanity and Grouchy Smurf) travel to Earth in order to track down Gargamel and save Smurfette.
Papa and the other Smurfs meet up with Patrick and Grace Winslow (played by Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays), their son Blue and Patrick’s stepfather Victor (Brendan Gleeson). Together, they travel to Paris, where Gargamel has become a famous magician who performs on stage every night. They go on a wild chase to save Smurfette before Gargamel can steal the spell to turn his Naughties into real Smurfs!
Katy Perry shines as the voice of Smurfette. The movie’s plotline focuses greatly on Smurfette as she tries to find her true identity – is she a Smurf or does she belong with Gargamel? Katy’s voice and character is perfect for Smurfette as she grows and discovers who she truly is.
If you’re looking for a fun adventure, THE SMURFS 2 is just for you. With an all-star cast of Smurf voices (including George Lopez, Shaquille O’Neal, Mario Lopez, Jimmy Kimmel and Kenan Thompson), the movie will keep you laughing with clever one-liners and comical gags.
