The sixth season of YTV’s hit Canadian talent show The Next Star began in July and the journey toward a winner unfolded with a clean climb to six finalists. Paige Prescott, Dante Scott, Kat Moscone, Alex Zaichkowski, Alicia Moffet and Jaden Myles moved through the weeks, each inching closer to the final stage. On Sunday, September 22, the top six gathered at Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan, Ontario, with celebrity guests Cody Simpson and Eleven Past One joining the night to crown a new star.
The 90‑minute live-to-TV special opened with a high-energy group performance of the season’s single, We Just Don’t Care, delivered by the finalists as a united showcase before the solo stories took the spotlight. Cody Simpson then took the stage, electrifying the crowd with La Da Dee as fans sang along from start to finish.
Each finalist was given time to shine with their own single, a project they had nurtured over the season. The group single, along with each individual track, is available on iTunes as part of YTV’s The Next Star – Season 6 album, and music videos were recorded in Toronto to accompany the songs.
Paige Prescott opened the night with her single Say U 2, a heartfelt look at love that resonated with the audience and kept the energy high. Dante Scott followed with Goodbye Gravity, a performance that drew cheers from the crowd from the first note to the last, leaving the arena buzzing with excitement. Kat Moscone then delivered a commanding moment, entering from a makeshift cage with the letters K, A and T engraved on each side, proving to the audience that she is a force to be reckoned with as the crowd roared at the conclusion of her set.
Midway through the show, Eleven Past One returned to perform their hit The World Is Ours, sending the audience into a wave of anticipation and sunshine as the band teased a summer vibe for the crowd.
Alex Zaichkowski launched the second block with All I Want, instantly winning over the audience. He even invited a Next Star Nation superfan named Kate on stage to share a moment, drawing praise from the judges who noted his natural stage presence and potential. Alicia Moffet opened with a quiet, camera-focused moment and then revealed a flowing dress as she performed Better Watch Out For Me, delivering a stunning finale with confidence and poise. Jaden Myles closed the set by handing out glow sticks and guiding the crowd to light up the night as he performed Winners, turning the finale into a shared celebration.
Before the night’s finale came to a close, Cody Simpson returned to sing his summer single Pretty Brown Eyes, a tribute to the fans who had followed his journey. The energy rose again as the arena counted down to the final moment of the show, with the audience waving and shining as one.
When the host, Carlos Bustamante, opened the envelope, the winner of The Next Star Season 6 was revealed to be Alicia Moffet. She stepped forward to perform the season’s winner’s song Roar, surrounded by her fellow top six as they joined in to close the show in triumphant fashion. Alicia walked away with a one‑song recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., a Sears shopping spree valued at $5,000, and an Epiphone Masterbilt Acoustic Guitar, marking a memorable ascent for the young artist. Congratulations to Alicia on the big night and the bright future ahead.
In a pre‑final interview, Cody spoke about staying relaxed and focused before a big moment, underscoring the importance of mental preparation and genuine connection with the audience. He also offered encouragement to Canadian youth auditioning for the next season, emphasizing authenticity, hard work, and trusting one’s instincts. The overall mood of the finale reflected a shared belief that the show still serves as a launchpad for undiscovered talent, with new opportunities teased for 2014 as a brand‑new Next Star series was announced. The finale thus stood as a milestone—celebrating the six finalists, the fan moments, and a crowned champion who would carry the franchise into its next chapter. The night ended with a sense of excitement for the performers and fans alike, a reminder that in Canadian pop culture, the next star can emerge when the stage is set and the music is right.
