Are you a fan of Jim Carrey’s?
I love Jim Carrey. I think he is absolutely hilarious. But this film isn’t about Jim Carrey. It’s about Junior, who’s a whole new generation of Ventura.
Tell us about some of the animals you worked with!
The cutest one was a chinchilla…. But the first one I actually got to hold was a baby alligator, which had hatched about two weeks before, and it was the size of my hand.
Do you have any dogs?
I have two dogs. A big, fat beagle named Richter, after Mike Richter, and a bichon poodle named Lucy…. When we brought Lucy home, we called her Lulu, and when my dad heard about it, he said, ‘Lulu!? It should be Lucy, because we call Richter, Ricky!’
What was it like voicing a golden retriever in the AIR BUDDIES movies?
It was great…. I always wonder about what my dogs think, like how they’re feeling.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to get a pet?
Always take good care of it, and if you want to get a puppy, because I’m a dog lover myself, adopt it. These dogs really need a home, and they are the nicest, sweetest dogs. Also, keep them away from carpeting, because they chew the heck out it…. Give them chew toys, not carpets!
A director once said that in Hollywood, the only person you can trust is your dog. Is there any truth to this?
I don’t know… [but] I also learned that a director said that a movie can’t work out if you include both animals and children, but ACE VENTURA was all about animals and children, and I think it worked out pretty well.
