When you step in the doors of Bennett High School you won’t see your average group of high school students. Instead, you may see Porter (Demetrius Joyette) secretly working his angel magic on Carl (Dylan Everett) or Jane (Brittany Adams) and Brittany (Hannah Lochner) rehearsing a new dance number.

In fact, it’s just another day on the set of WINGIN’ IT, Family Channel’s hit comedy that appeals to kids, tweens, teens, and even adults. THE MAGAZINE had the chance to visit the Toronto set and spend the day watching filming and talking to the cast. As well, we had the amazing opportunity to watch an episode of season 3 – we can’t spill details, but the fans are going to love it!

THE MAGAZINE sat down with Sebastian Hearn who plays Serge, Demetrius Joyette who plays Porter, and Dylan Everett who plays Carl, to get the scoop on new episodes and on set shenanigans.

You are now filming season 3, how has your character matured since season 1?
Sebastian Hearn: In season 1, Serge was the bully towards Carl. [In] season 3, they are more friendly and they are pretty tight and sorta help each other out. There is still tension there but usually it’s just friendly competition.
Demetrius Joyette: He is a lot more mature in the sense that he’s making some wiser decisions. The way he’s solving problems is a lot more elaborate and he’s actually putting time in and really trying to do better with his magic. But you know, it’s Porter – I don’t think he’ll ever entirely get it.
Dylan Everett: He’s matured quite extensively. He’s got a lot more confidence in himself and he’s much more independent. He’s finding his cool.

Describe a typical day on set.
DE: I usually start around 6:30-6:45 which means I’m up at like 5. It’s usually 12 hour days and it’s crazy all through the day, nice and busy, [you’re] always doing something. We get to do something we love, it’s awesome.

Tell us about your most embarrassing moment on set.
SH: There’s a lot. I’ve had to wear a lot of dresses and I had to pie myself in the face with a real blueberry pie – that wasn’t fun.
DJ: Being dressed up in a girl costume. A lot of people don’t expect it; they’re just like, “Hey Dee. Whoa. You’re looking like a girl. What happened?”
DE: That’s a hard one. When I was dressed as a girl you’d think I would’ve learned from seeing all the girls walk in front of the AC’s when they wear dresses and it blows it up…I didn’t and it blew it up and I was like, “oh…”, and everyone was [laughing].

How do you carve time out of the day for yourself and for your friends and family?
DE: That’s a tricky one. Working anywhere from 10-13 hours a day can be really exhausting so even if I do get time I’m really tired so I don’t feel like doing anything. I still get weekends to hang out with my friends and family, but during the week it’s pretty much strictly work.

How do you make time for staying in touch with your fans?
DJ: I make time. My friends and family are always there for me so they understand when I’m working but when I’m on set I’ll tweet a lot and be like, “Guys, I’m on set right now. How’s your day going?” It’s really cool to interact with them and let them know we appreciate [their] support.

Do you go to school?
DJ: It’s hard. It takes a lot of dedication but when we’re shooting we have a tutor that comes on set. So in-between scenes, we’ll be in that room with the tutor doing our schoolwork.

Previous episodes have focused on various themes such as bullying and peer pressure. What kinds of themes will we be seeing in season 3?
DJ: Standing up for your friends and being there for them when they’re in times of need.
DE: I think the whole show in general sends a lot of good messages. As you watch over the seasons you begin to see Carl is just himself and he doesn’t try to be anyone else. His confidence goes up and situations work themselves out.

Before season 3 airs, we still have new episodes of season 2 to see this fall! What can fans look forward to?
DJ: A lot more magic, a lot more hectic situations, a few nail biters. It’s going to be great.
DE: Lots of shenanigans, lots of hijinks and crazy stuff. Lots of magic which I think the fans are going to love, especially towards the end. There’s lots of relationship drama between [Carl] and Jane, [Carl] and Porter, Porter and Jane, and [Carl] and Denise. The fans are in for quite a ride.

So, every fan wants to know…will Carl and Jane EVER date?
DE: I think so. They’ve been best friends since they were little and it’s always kinda the way it turns out in the end. They get along really well and they’d make a good couple. So, yeah.

Who is the jokester on set?
SH: Demetrius.
DJ: Dylan for sure.
DE: Me, obviously. I’m the best.

Thank you Sebastian, Demetrius and Dylan! Check out new episodes beginning Saturday, September 24 at 9:30 a.m. on Family Channel!
