Mega star athlete, David Beckham, is currently in China to begin his duties as soccer ambassador to the country.
Beckham arrived in Tuesday to help develop young soccer players and get more kids interested in the sport. The country recently gained bad publicity when a number of scandals, involving fixed games, were revealed and conspirators sent to prison.
Despite the scandals, Beckham stated that he wasn’t there to fix anything and that he was “here to educate the children and give them a chance to become professional footballers.” Developing an organisation where children are able to practice and hone in on their soccer skills is high on the list of China’s priorities and Beckham stated that he wants to help and train young players who may one day grow up to represent their country.
Currently Beckham is signed with Paris Saint-Germain, but is due to play an exhibition game in China in November, after his contract with PSG expires. Beckham was once linked to play for the Chinese Super League after leaving the Los Angeles Galaxy and has said that he doesn’t rule out playing for China in the future.
