What do you do next when you already have 22 Olympic medals? Well, you could do like Michael Phelps: take up a new sport and star in a reality TV show. After retiring as the most decorated Olympian in history, Phelps now plans to start a new chapter in his life as a professional golfer. The athlete will also star in latest instructional golf series by Tiger Woods’ former coach, Hank Haney.
The Golf Channel’s HANEY PROJECT aims to help amateur golfers’ improve their game. According to a recent statement from Phelps, he is excited and looking forward to what he and Hank will be able to accomplish on the golf course.
In the series, Phelps will take golf lessons on some of the world’s best courses. The Olympic star added that this will be a good opportunity for him to enter into the next phase of his life and he is really excited about playing golf.
The biggest shock? Phelps admitted he was a thousand times more nervous teeing off than before his first event at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. His interest in golf also has earned him a moral support from his hero, basketball player Michael Jordan, who invited Phelps to play a game with him.
Phelps is already taking steps to make the sport crossover a successful one and recently participated in a Ryder Cup celebrity event with Justin Timberlake and George Lopez.
We wish Phelps the best of luck as he transitions from water to land and starts a new chapter of his career!
