Dexter Walters decided to jump start his dream of becoming an astronaut by writing to NASA about his goal of traveling to Mars. Although NASA simply does not have enough hours in the day to respond to every letter sent to them, they saw something special in the 7-year-old U.K. boy and responded to his handwritten letter!
After hearing about NASA’s desire to send humans to Mars one day, Dexter was inspired to write to NASA. “I heard that you are sending 2 humans to Mars and I would like to come but I’m 7. So I can’t come,” he wrote. “I would like to come in the future. What do I need to do to become an astronaut?”
NASA’s letter back to Dexter was just as sweet as his handwritten one. “Just think – in a few years, you could be one of the pioneers that may help the world’s activities for better understanding of our earth and for exploring space,” it reads. The space agency also sent pictures of the Mars Curiosity rover as well as some stickers and a bookmark!
As soon as his mother received the letter, she posted about it on Reddit. There has been over 2,100 heartfelt and encouraging comments since posting the news three days ago.
