We’ve all heard “Run the World (Girls)” by now, meaning we’ve all assumed that Beyoncé’s new album “4” is basically just a fiercer version of Sasha Fierce (if it was possible). But the more you make your way though the album, the more it divulges into classic “relationship” Beyoncé, the one we know and love from back in the Destiny’s Child era.
Aptly named “4” after it being her fourth studio album, the sound reflects on the characteristics that have kept her on top, apart from the glitz and shock value required of the other female artists (ie. Rhianna, Gaga, etc). Songs like “I Miss You” and “Best Thing I Never Had” keep the her talent and musicality present, while “Run the World” and “Party” maintain her “Single Ladies” Sasha Fierce persona.
Last year when describing the album, Beyoncé said she wanted to create a whole new genre. Did she? Not really, but she kept to what she does best, and we’re not complaining. – 3.5/5
