The Magazine sat down with Megan and Liz, the twin sisters who have become YouTube sensations, as they kicked off a summer North American tour. Their upcoming debut album, Look What You Started, is said to include 11 tracks, a detail the pair hinted at without revealing the full lineup. The chat covered favorite tour memories, their musical ambitions, and the journey that brought them to this point in their career.

When asked about the inspiration behind Release You, Liz explained that the song emerged during a period when both sisters were closing chapters in their relationships. It marked a turning point and a moment of resolve to move forward without looking back.

Megan named Katy Perry and Taylor Swift as major musical influences, while Liz singled out Katy Perry as a primary inspiration. The two have developed a strong admiration for pop icons who have shaped their own sound and stage presence.

Discussing how they began their musical path, Liz recalled growing up with musically inclined parents, which made singing around the house completely normal. That supportive environment helped them recognize singing as their true passion and eventually a career possibility.

Fame via YouTube has its challenges, but the sisters have found a path that resonates with audiences. Liz notes that her most memorable cover was Stereo Hearts, largely because it let her rap and bring a playful energy to the performance. Megan cites I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift, performed in a stripped-back acoustic arrangement, as a standout moment because it highlighted the raw simplicity of their sound.

As their covers evolved, so did the energy of their shoots. Liz recalls the most fun moment as filming Dominos by Jessie J, where the pair dramatically transformed Megan’s room, tearing down curtains and flipping a mattress for the camera. Megan agrees that shoot was memorable because it allowed them to destroy the room and lamps for the story. Another favorite was the I Like It Like That cover, which had confetti and balloons creating a party atmosphere.

The duo is back on the road in August, touring with Kalin and Myles. Their teams clicked at a Los Angeles show, and the mix of two very different acts—female pop singers versus male DJs who rap—proved a dynamic and exciting blend. The girls hope to continue collaborating with Kalin and Myles on every stop, believing the show flow is stronger when they work together.

One standout tour moment for Liz involved a show where, during the chorus of Are You Happy Now, the audience revealed pre-arranged signs. Paper hearts bore the message NY LOVES MEGAN AND LIZ, a moment that brought the sisters to tears on stage and underscored the crowd’s support and connection.

When asked to pick two tour essentials, Liz immediately chose false eyelashes, while Megan echoed the need for the same look plus plenty of water to protect the voice and stamina on long stages.

Toronto marks Megan and Liz’s first visit to the city, and though time was tight, they took a moment to stroll through its streets. Liz was effusive about the warmth of the people, and Megan appreciated the vibrant energy of the city.

For aspiring musicians walking a similar path, Liz advises hard work and perseverance. Nothing worthwhile comes easily, especially in the music industry, but staying focused and resilient is essential.

As the conversation wrapped, Megan and Liz thanked their readers for the ongoing support and encouraged everyone to check out Release You on iTunes. Gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead filled the moment, closing a conversation that showcased their growth and the music they are creating together.

Thank you to Megan and Liz for sharing their experiences and music with readers.
