With Beyonce constantly dominating the radiowaves, we often forget that there were other members of the group that made her famous. But yes, there were, in fact, other members of Destiny’s Child! But it’s easy to forget when the other DC band mates take so long to release albums.
We haven’t heard anything extraordinary from Kelly Rowland in some time (8 years to be exact, since nothing has been note worthy since her debut album). But, her third studio album HERE I AM is finally available, and it seems that time off has done her well.
Shaving off a bit of her soul/R&B roots, the majority of her songs have a very pop/dance sound. Singles like “I’m Dat Chick” and “Turn it Up” loosely resemble Rihanna’s latest album LOUD, just with a more relaxed sound. But, Rowland hasn’t completely ditched her signature soulful tone. Tracks like “Heaven and Earth”, “All of the Night” and “Motivation” bring back her soulful roots.
In numerous interviews about the album, Rowland said she wanted to make a bold statement with her latest album while having a little fun, and she pulled it off! – 3.5/5
Action packed super fun side note: Rowland’s reunited with Nelly for his song on his latest album “Gone”. Glad to see those two still keep in touch! We’ve been waiting for a “Dilemma” follow up for years. It’s also not as good as the 2003 version, but what can ya do…
