This animated SUPERNATURAL spin off was originally intended to only be available for the Japanese market, but now fans in North America can celebrate! It’s the first Western live action TV series to ever be adapted into an anime cartoon, and today it’s available on DVD and Blu Ray.

The 22 episode collection re-tells the first two seasons of SUPERNATURAL in anime style. It follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester hunting down the yellow-eyed demon that killed their mother while also running into supernatural demonic children along the way. But it isn’t a word-for-word retelling, as there are a few new adaptations added and nine original stories. These new stories elaborate more on the boys’ upbringing and divulge a lot of new information about secondary characters.

Basically, if you love anime, you’ll love it, and if you love the SUPERNATURAL series, you’ll love it. Most of the original cast has come back to fill in the voice work, like Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester for nine episodes and Jensen Ackles for two. Now all we have to do is wait and see what other CW shows would look great in anime (we suggest the new 90210). – 3.5/5

Bonus features include:
– Episode introductions by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles
– Making of SUPERNATURAL: THE ANIME SERIES documentary
– Actor and Director interviews
– Three Japanese TV Spots
