Sixteen-year-oldElla Yelich-O’Connor, also known by her stage name Lorde, has officially released her brand new single, “Team.”

Born and raised in New Zealand, Lorde was scouted when she was 12 years old. Around the ages of 13 to 14, Lorde began writing her own songs with her guitar. She’s been working with Universal Music ever since to develop her musical talents and follow her dreams.

In March 2013, her first EP titled ‘The Love Club EP’ dropped in the market and since then, her popularity has sky-rocketed. Billboard announced that in August 2013, Lorde became the first woman to top their Alternative Songs chart in the U.S. since Tracy Bonham’s success with “Mother Mother” in 1996!

Following up on the success of her previous singles “Royals” and “Tennis Court,” you can hear a familiar message behind her lyrics, as Lorde continues to question the life of the rich and famous in “Team.” In an interview with Billboard, they asked her about a lyric that stood out to many — “I’m kind of over being told to throw my hands up in the air… so there” — and she described that as being her “own take on modern music” and “being a ‘realistic’ pop star.”
