Zelda fans from far and wide gathered in Toronto on November 16 to celebrate the release of THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS at a free Nintendo event! If you couldn’t attend it, that’s okay! THE MAGAZINE was there to get an inside scoop on what to expect for the new game, which will be released on November 22.

Held in the Great Hall, gamers streamed in to check out the event, try out the new game and street pass with as many fellow DS players as they could. There were contests and giveaways and many fans cosplayed as characters from THE LEGEND OF ZELDA games.

Nintendo also invited a local artist, Adam Gorham, who painted Link on a brick wall in about an hour and a half! Looks pretty cool, right?

Fans got a chance to have their photos taken beside the artwork, too. The mural is also promoting a highly anticipated feature in the game, where Link can actually walk and blend into the walls.

Matt Ryan from Nintendo Canada gave us a quick overview of the game itself. He told us that this game is in 3D, equipped with a top down, bird’s eye view, bright colours and smooth, enhanced graphics.

He demonstrated the walk into walls feature and described it as a “navigational advantage” because players can use it to easily access hard to reach areas. This feature also helps Link hide from his enemies. He recommends the game to anybody and everybody, as it caters to people of all ages who “enjoy adventure games and watching the story unfold.”

The first Legend of Zelda game came out in the late ’80s. YouTuber The Obsessive Gamertells The Magazine why he’s been loyal to the game for so long and alsoinforms us about the origins of A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS.

“I’m a very big Legend of Zelda fan. I have played much of the entries in the series and even played some of the re-releases as well. The story is relatively the same: a villain takes Princess Zelda and you, being Link, try to rescue her. It’s the game play that keeps me coming back. They make clever dungeon designs, a breathtaking over-world and as a result, allows players to go through puzzles, venture through the world and ultimately, save the world. This is actually a sequel to one of the oldest Legend of Zelda games, A LINK TO THE PAST. It’s considered one of the best Zelda games out there, too, so it makes sense to release such a good sequel for it.”

Sach Prashad, a first year Radio and Television Arts student at Ryerson University, had the chance to try out A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS.

“Walking through walls provide fans with a unique way of getting around. However, I also noticed that the creators kept many familiar elements from the past games on top of the new features. I think that’s a good strategy. Especially for me, the familiarity and relation to past games is what keeps me coming back for more.”

A big thank you goes to Nintendo for hosting such a great event. Remember,THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS will hit stores on November 22. Don’t forget to try out this amazing new game!
