Blake Garrett Rosenthal, widely known for MOM, discussed his role on the show, what it’s like working with big stars, his first audition, and more.

What made you initially want to get into acting?

Rosenthal explains that his acting career began almost by chance. His aunt, a youth talent agent, was seeking a five-year-old for a TV pilot, and he was five when she sent him to audition. He landed the part, though the pilot wasn’t picked up. That early success opened the door, and his aunt kept sending him to auditions, kickstarting his journey in acting.

Do you remember your first audition? What was it like?

Rosenthal recalls little from that first audition since he was five and still learning to read. He remembers his mother helping him practice the lines, being among many kids, and being the last to be seen. When he stepped into the room to meet the casting directors, they laughed at his delivery, a moment he has never forgotten.

Are you similar to your character on MOM, Roscoe? Or different?

Both share a love for family and an easygoing vibe. Rosenthal says he is likely a bit smarter and more athletic than Roscoe, though the core warmth and loyalty stay the same.

What is it like working with huge names like Anna Faris and Allison Janney?

Working with Anna and Allison has been a dream come true. They are down-to-earth and incredibly kind to him, making the set feel like a family. They bring laughter on and off camera, and their support helps him grow as an actor.

How does working on a sitcom differ from the experience of being in a movie?

On a sitcom, the process unfolds on a studio stage with rehearsals, run-throughs, and a live audience for filming. In contrast, movie shoots usually happen on location, with longer hours and less rehearsal, and some scenes taking an entire day to complete.

Which actor/actress would be your dream to work with?

Rosenthal feels fortunate to be working with his current team, but he would love a chance to work with Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory, one of his favorite actors.

How do you balance acting with being a regular kid (school, hanging with friends, etc.)?

On MOM the schedule typically runs two weeks on, one week off. On shooting days a studio teacher helps him stay on track with school, and during breaks he attends classes like any other kid. He enjoys playing in sports leagues during the year, with basketball as his favorite, though he also plays baseball.

What is the main reason you like acting so much?

The main draw is the thrill of being in front of the camera and stepping into different characters. Filming in front of a live audience adds energy, and the cast thrives on making the audience laugh together.

What is your advice to readers who are interested in pursuing acting?

Rosenthal encourages dedication because the path can be tough. Rejections happen, but perseverance matters, and staying the course is essential in this business.

Can you give us a teaser for the MOM season finale?

The finale features several twists and humorous moments, including interactions between Roscoe and his dad Baxter in a hospital waiting area. Viewers will learn whether Violet keeps the baby or considers adoption, with plenty of funny, unexpected turns involving Bonnie and Alvin. The best plan is to tune in and see how it unfolds.

Thanks to Blake for the chat, and fans can catch the MOM season finale on CBS.
