With all the hype around the upcoming AVENGERS film, we almost forgot that there’s a little Justice League hero out there trying to amp up the DC hype. While GREEN LANTERN didn’t really measure up to other superhero releases like X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, CAPTIAN AMERICAN and THOR, it had a few loveable qualities that made it bearable.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, THE GREEN LANTERN tells the story of Hal Jordan, an everyday test pilot who’s the first human to ever be part of the Green Lantern Corps. The Green Lanterns are a brotherhood of warriors who have sworn to help keep the universe in order. The Corps. give Hal his own Green Lantern ring that grants him super powers. But, when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the universe, Hal is forced to step up and fight for the protection of the earth, and the universe!
While, again, the movie didn’t shine as much as the fans thought it would, it delivered what it promised: a fantasy, sci-fi universe, a villain, and a hero. Between the dull writing, character development, and over-the-top CGI many were almost angry about the mediocrity… but we can’t help but enjoy a movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We’re sure the hardcore fans will appreciate what they saw.
