Family Channel has announced that A.N.T FARM will return for a second season. The show follows Chyna Parks, an exceptionally talented 11-year-old who moves to high school early through the Advanced Natural Talent program. With Olive Doyle and Fletcher Quimby by her side, Chyna navigates a new school while avoiding Lexi Reed, the queen bee played by Stefanie Scott.
Jake Short, the actor who plays Fletcher, discussed his approach to the role, his new puppy, and the famous pie moment in a recent interview. The conversation also touched on Fletcher headspace and other on set moments from the cast’s life.
A.N.T FARM has been renewed for a second season and the actor expresses real excitement. Filming will resume on the 13th, and Short says reading the script and bringing each episode to life is the best part of the job. He credits the writers for their strong work and is happy to be part of the show.
What attracts Short to Fletcher is the character as a quirky, expressive person and the way he interacts with others. Fletcher tends to overreact, adding energy that fans enjoy, while staying relatable because he remains human.
Short confirms he was homeschooled, which shaped his view of education and working on set.
One standout moment from season one is the Christmas episode when Fletcher gets pied in the face. Short calls it a lot of fun, even though it is messy.
When asked if the pie was real, Short explains that it was shaving cream with a graham crust on set.
Even so, he jokes that he later tasted the aftermath and found it unpleasant.
To enter Fletcher’s mindset, Short says there are similarities between them, though Fletcher is more dramatic. He notes Fletcher’s quirkiness and flirtatious humor drive their scenes.
On set the cast gets along well, often playing games between takes. They say they always have a great time.
When not acting, Short balances school with a busy schedule. He loves sports and spends time running and playing catch with his sister. He stopped playing video games in ninth grade but may return later.
Asked about subjects, Short says science is his favorite, although he respects art. He jokes that biology is not his cup of tea.
Asked about art, Short says he respects creative work but notes he has no talent in drawing, which he finds funny.
Fans learn that the family has a little dog named Skipper, a long‑haired Chihuahua mix adopted from a pound.
Short loves dogs and cats and enjoys spending time with pets whenever possible.
Besides the pie gag, there are other playful moments on set, including a ball pit that was moved from another show and placed in the office.
